“He’s just some guy named Ashton,” I answered, bringing my still very red face away from my hands.

“Huh, that’s weird. I didn’t invite anyone named Ashton. I don’t even think I know anyone with that name. Maybe he was brought by a friend?” Amelia said somewhat to herself. “What’s his last name?”

“Um, you know, I’m not sure. I never asked.” I shrugged, recalling that Ashton had driven himself to the party. He hadn’t gone with a friend. So why was he there?

“Well, find that out if you’re going to be sleeping with the guy,” Lacey stated. She reached into my baggie of oats and gently tossed a handful at the ducks.

“It was a one time thing. As I said, we aren’t actually together.” I was reassuring myself more than my friends. Despite the sun being out, it felt like a shadow was suddenly looming over us. Something stirred in the wind directly behind me, but when I peeked over my shoulder, there was nothing there.

Lacey pulled out her phone to check the time. “Dammit, I have to head back to class.” She stood with a smile and grabbed her navy-blue tote bag with little daisies on it, causing a few of the ducks to flap away. “But really, you should invite Ashton to hang out sometime. I want to meet this guy.”

“We’ll see about that. I honestly don’t plan on dating him, though, even if he is really fucking hot.” I laughed while getting ready to leave as well.

I wandered down a dim and musty aisle back at the library, my eyes searching over the many colorful manuscripts. I was looking for the works of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow for a reading assignment, yet all I could think about was getting the flip out of this place. Similar to the other day, I felt rather anxious, as if I weren’t alone. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, and my gut twisted with dread. There were rumors about this building being haunted, and I was beginning to believe them despite my lack of belief in the paranormal.

The feeling was becoming somewhat normal and I feared I was losing my mind. I looked down towards the wall at the shadowy dead end of the aisle. It was dark and cobwebbed, the light from above barely reaching it. It was difficult to explain, but it felt like someone was there, lurking in the darkness. Like a predator watching its prey, cloaked just beyond sight.

Get a grip, you paranoid buffoon!

I unsuccessfully tried to brush it off and kept looking for my book. No one was over there, and it was insane to feel frightened by a dimly lit corner! My eyes finally landed on the title that I needed. It was on a higher shelf, and I had to reach up on my tiptoes to get it. My fingertips managed to grip the cover with a weak hold, and I struggled to pull it down. A large, warm hand suddenly brushed my lower back, causing me to jump in fright with a small scream. The book dropped to the floor as I whipped around.

“Sweet lemony leprechauns! What is the meaning of this!?”

“Wow, someone’s easy to scare. I was only going to help you reach that book,” Ashton said with an amused laugh.

“What the heck? Ashton? How did you sneak up on me like that!?” Really, how did he? Those old wooden floors were super creaky, and the man was practically a titan.

“I didn’t sneak up on you; I emerged from the darkness.” He joked sarcastically while wiggling his fingers at me in a spooky manner. He reached down to grab the book and handed it to me.

“Ha-ha, very funny.” I took the book from his hand with a scowl. “What are you doing here, anyway? Do you spend all your free time at the library or something?” I tried to compose myself and shoved some hair behind my ear. It was a bit awkward remembering that he’d dicked me down in the woods not that long ago, and I didn’t really know how I should act around him after that.

“No, I was looking for something. Luckily, I seem to have found it.” He shrugged with a grin.

“That’s nice... Well, I have also found what I was looking for, so I should be getting home to study. I’ll see you around.” I went to turn and walk away.

His arm struck out against the shelf, blocking me from leaving. Ever so slowly, he turned his head to gaze at me with an expression that appeared calm yet made me feel as though I had just provoked a hornet’s nest with a stick. It seemed he didn’t appreciate me trying to give him the slip...Oops.

“I have a better idea. Why don’t you come home with me, and we can study together back at my place?” He lifted my chin with his free hand in a dominant caress.

“I-I, um, well—“ I couldn’t respond, my body was already growing hot and needy for his sensual touch. I looked at him with wide, wary eyes and slumped back while biting my lower lip.

How does he have this effect on me?

His gaze heated as he glanced down at my mouth. The hand under my chin gently grabbed my jaw, and his thumb popped my lip out from under my teeth. He leaned forward, lowering his face right to mine, nose to nose. “Don’t bite your lip in front of me like that, Buttercup, or I might have to bend you over and fuck you right here in this musty, old library.” Although he whispered, his voice was rough, almost a growl. He brushed his thumb across my lips while moving his other hand from the wall to grab my waist and pull me closer to him.

Oh, snap...

I was terrified that he might be serious, and yet the floodgates in my panties were suddenly wide open. I didn’t know what to say or do, so I turned my head to avert my gaze from him, noticing an older woman in the aisle across from us. She was shaking her head and glaring in disapproval.

Ashton followed my gaze, a look of challenge roaring to life in his eyes. “Come to think of it, you should have known better.” He grabbed my hand and began leading me down the main hall.

“Wait, where are we going?” I whispered as we passed by some geeky group of kids studying. He didn’t respond and instead dragged me to one of the less-frequented wings.

Untidy piles of books were collecting dust, and the aisles were lined with torn, cobweb-covered manuscripts. There was an old hardwood desk hidden in a little nook at the far end. It had a dusty green banker’s lamp and a bunch of forgotten books and random papers littering its surface. We rushed past the aisles, heading directly for it. Ashton stood by a wooden chair and pulled my back against his front. Without any warning, he pushed me forward, forcing me to bend over the desk.

My eyes practically popped out of my skull as he unfastened his pants like a psychotic satyriasis.“Wait, wait, wait!”I tried to push myself back up. “You aren’t seriously doing what I think you’re doing!?”

Warm lips trailed up the back of my neck, sending shivers of delight through me. “You mean bending you over and fucking you right here and right now? Then yes. Yes, I am.” His breath curled across my cheek as he reached down between my legs.
