Not the Council.
No one.
I understood our real mission now.The Novum Mobilis Coven was not simply a group of powerful witches. We were sisters bound by magic, and our job was to make sure it was kept free, existing for all to use without any one person holding a monopoly.
We stood there together for long minutes after it was done. Then one by one, my sisters turned around and sought their mates.Magnus was holding Judge, and Arlo was shouting orders. My heart squeezed.
I needed him back to be whole. And if he couldn’t return to this realm, then I was ready, willing, and able to walk into the next one for him.
Anything for my Calon.
EPILOGUE
Lucky for me,Arlo was a magnificent healer, and Judge was far more resilient than anyone knew.Well, anyone but me.
“Nizhoni,” he greeted me warmly as I walked into the tent we shared inside the Winter Forest.
Classes had resumed with Leanna Stolbright taking the helm as Headmistress of Westwood Academy, but unfortunately, room 563W had to be vacated due to some much needed renovations to that dormitory wing. That was all right with me.
We’d been given special permission to stay on campus grounds, in the woods, with my other sister witches.Judge constructed not one, but six tents, each of them to the specifics of the couple. We now had running water, electricity, everything a witch could want. And even better, they were soundproof.
“Whose turn is it to cook tonight?”I asked, after he was finished kissing the hell out of me.
“Magnus, I believe,” he said, and I smiled.
The kraken shifter made killer shrimp, and I was in the mood for some seafood.Every night, the twelve of us sat together and ate our evening meal like a real family. It was something I had always wanted, and now had, thanks to Judge and everyone else. But mostly Judge.
“How was your meeting with the Clan?”I asked, taking off my jacket and dropping my bag onto a cushion near the door.
“Fine. The elders will work with me, allowing me to run the Clan remotely while I attend classes here to get in touch with my western heritage. The more I know about all my magic, the better I can protect our memory stores for the future generations.”
“That’s great news!”
The future was finally going to be ours, and I, for one, could not wait.
“No need to rush the future, Nizhoni.Especially when right now is so nice,” he growled, tugging me into his arms and crashing his mouth to mine.
Judge tightened his hold on me and all rational thought left my mind and blood rushed to render my body swollen, soft, and wet, readying for him.Our physical relationship was intense, that was undeniable, but it was the way he touched my heart that really got me.
* * *
A long while later,as we lay panting together in a tangle of arms and legs in the soft bed he weaved for us with his magic, I felt peace for the first time deep in my soul, This was where I belonged. In this time, in this place, with this man, and my sister witches and their mates.
“I love you, Nizhoni.”
“I love you too,” I replied, and meant every word.
Satisfaction filled me, and it was coming from not only myself, but Judge, and the others.
Magnus banged the gong Enok had found hidden in a closet inside the archive room of the library, signaling dinner, and the two of us rose to dress.
We were not just a coven, we were a family with a bond it was unbreakable. As for me, I finally knew exactly who I was.
Spirit witch.
Mate.
Friend.
