Fuck, what did I do?
“You used magic to change the contract! That spell was created by witches and wizards on the Council, Mabe. We are talking uber powerful people.”
“With no fucking morals, apparently,” I muttered.
“Yes, you are right. They tricked me into accepting it, but you saved me! My feisty, brilliant mate,” Fin growled, kissing my head.
“I did?”
“Yes, you did.”
I smiled so wide my face hurt as I accepted his kisses and praise with gusto. I don’t think anyone had ever been so confident in me, and it felt good. Almost as good as I felt when we were,er, together.
“Fin, I know it’s too soon, but I really care about you,” I whispered, needing to tell him how I felt.
His silver eyes glittered down at me for a moment before he dropped a kiss on my mouth, without going too far. He pressed his forehead against mine, and it was like time stood still. His magic brushed against mine. One second, it was soft and glowy like moonlight, the next fast and hot like white lightning. But I didn’t fear it, and I didn’t fear him, even though he felt really powerful.
I wanted to ask questions.
Such as, how could an Enforcer feel so powerful when magic was being drained from our realm?
But we were surrounded by my roommates, and this was not the time.
“Is she conscious?” another voice said, then Arlo appeared, blinking down at me. “Good. Okay, her stats are up. Platelet count looks good!”
The healer was reading off the screen from the tablet in his hand, and I realized I was hooked up to some kind of machine.
Hence the whirring noise.
“There she is,” Jade whispered, hovering over me.
“How you feeling, you sex-crazed animal?” Tana asked, wagging her eyebrows and pointing to her neck.
The fire witch was teasing, but my gaze shot right to Fin. He was grinning widely, and I exhaled, relieved he was okay. His neck bore my bite mark, and it looked red and angry.
Shit, I was a fucking monster.
“Hey, none of that now. No teasing my mate. She is perfect and I am proud to wear her bite,” Fin growled playfully.
“Yasss! Own that bite, you beautiful beyotch,” Rio said, offering me a high five.
“What?” I snorted a laugh, and yes, I high-fived her.
“I know, right?” Tana said, agreeing with the water witch.
“Well, I’ve only seen these rumbly bastards biting people and going all caveman on a girl. Magnus is always like You. Mate. Mine. And I guess it’s just cool seeing a woman do the same,” she said and shrugged, though her mate didn’t look so happy.
“Really, Rio? You. Mate. Mine. I do not sound like that!” he replied, exasperation evident in his tone.
“Dude,” Brandon, Tana’s mate, interrupted. “I can hear through walls, and you totally fucking sound like that,” the dragon hybrid added, pointing at the two of them.
“Like you’re any better?” Magnus snapped, throwing what looked like a handful of popcorn at his buddy.
Tana and Rio exchanged smirks, and eventually everyone started laughing.
“All right, help me sit up,” I said, eyes going wide when my belly grumbled.
“Do you need blood?” Arlo asked, rushing forward with a bag.
