“Yes. I’m not like the other girls with their perfect curvy bodies and sense of style, Fin. I know my limitations, but something weird is going on tonight.”

“Okay, well, first, let’s agree to disagree about your sense of style and body type.”

“What do you mean?” I asked, genuinely confused.

“I mean, I like you, Mabel. From the first time I saw you, I was attracted to you. Full black regalia and all.”

“You were attracted to me in the hall that day?”

“Yes. I still am. Truth is, I think you are fucking gorgeous and your body, damn. I’ve never seen anything like you, Mabel Marlow, but I agree, something is different.”

“It is, right?” I frowned.

I wanted Fin. There was no denying that. And I wanted him to want me, which he just admitted he did. But if there was something in that drink, a sort of magical aphrodisiac that was turning me into a horn dog or something, I sure as fuck did not want that.

People were staring before the drink.

No, it’s something else.

“Mabel, I came here with every intention of kissing you again, but there was another reason too.”

“Oh?”

“I just returned from my brief with the Council. Fuckers had me waiting a full day in their halls until they questioned me.”

“But I thought you work for them?” I asked, even more confused.

“Technically, these runes are part of a spell solidifying my contract with the Council. But I am Enforcer. We are our own entity, and what we do is a sort of policing of the supernatural world.”

“Yeah, I heard all about you and yours, Mr. Last Call,” I murmured, and Fin grimaced.

“I know my family has a bad rep, Mabel, but I swear I never do anything unless there is a reason, and I sure as fuck don’t like killing people or creatures without a damn good one.”

“You kill people?” I squeaked.

Fin frowned, cocking his head to the side in a way that reminded me of one of the shifter sentinels, though I knew he wasn’t a shifter himself. Enforcers, from what I knew, and that was very little, were magic users, not unlike witches and wizards or mages even. Only, they combined magical talent with physical prowess and followed an ancient code binding them to serve the supernatural community.

“So, in other words, you are a bigger badass than I thought,” I said, lifting my gaze to his.

It had been only days since I last saw him, but Fin was just so damn big. He towered over me, making the trees behind him appear small. He was also the most handsome man I had ever seen. Far too beautiful for a street kid like me, but that did not stop me from wanting him.

Want.

Need.

Must have.

Seeing that momentary uncertainty pass over his movie-star-handsome face when he’d assumed I would be upset by what he was did something to me. It moved me inside. Those silver eyes seemed to see right through me, and I wondered what he thought of my obvious infatuation.

Surely, he had his share of admirers. Fin was too beautiful not to have them by the thousands. Men. Women. I bet they all stared when he walked by. His smooth, ivory skin was unblemished and perfect. Dark eyebrows, equally dark hair fell over his forehead, and his eyelashes.

Fuck!

It was a damn travesty that a man should have lashes that thick and long.

Then again, since I got to look at him, I supposed it was okay. Fin was simply gorgeous, and the shallow part of me had to admit I liked pretty things. Plus, there was the way he made me feel. I’d never known lust so strong, or desire so deep as when I was around him.

I knew it was fast, but I also knew life didn’t always afford us the luxury of time.
