It was the kind of book that left me wondering if fated mates were possible, and that little nugget was weighing heavily on my mind. I didn’t want to admit it yet, at least, not out loud, but I felt hopeful for the first time in memory.
Fin’s handsome face flashed in my mind with those gorgeous eyes of his, sparkling like silver lightning. To date, I’d never liked a boy this much before in my life. But there was something different about this Enforcer.
He could hurt me, that was true. Hell, he could do worse than that. But surprisingly, I trusted he wouldn’t. I didn’t know what it meant or where it would lead, if anywhere. But I knew one thing for sure.
I was dying to find out.
CHAPTER8
“What’s that?”Jade asked, yawning as we sat down to have some muffins and coffee before classes started the next day.
I’d had a restless night, but who could blame me?
Hell, I wound up rereading that entire series, catching no z’s until the wee hours of the morning. No matter. I hardly slept these days.
Good thing too. I was the first one up and the first to see the envelope I was currently holding in my hand. Jade was reading the inscription over my shoulder, and I tucked it down.
“Do you mind?” I teased.
“Ooh, it has your name on it,” Jade sang in an annoying voice.
Sigh.
“Must you all sing badly when you want to tease a girl?”
“Yes. Singing badly when taunting someone is an ageless tactic, young one. Stick with me, I’ll teach you more!” Maia answered for her as she entered the kitchen.
“Fine,” I mumbled. “This is a note forme. It was under the door this morning,” I said, feigning exasperation toward their shenanigans.
My name was written across it in scrawling script, and I traced it with my fingers before lifting the envelope to my nose. I sniffed, grinning when I scented ginger and spice. It was fromhim.
“So, who is it from?” Jade asked.
“My Fin, er, uh, I mean, Fin. Just Fin!” I yelled, dropping the letter to the floor in panic.
“YourFin, huh?” Maia repeated, wagging her eyebrows as I stooped to grab the thing.
“Ouch!” I snarled when I banged my head on the corner of the table.
Righting myself, I rubbed my head, holding the envelope tight with my other hand. Freaking nosy roomies!
“He’s not mine,” I repeated calmly.
“Um, the way you two were dry humping in the hallway last night, I’d say he was yours,” Tana chimed in, walking Brandon to the door.
“Be nice, Tana,” Brandon mock scolded, kissing his mate lightly before leaving.
The dragon hybrid likely had a shift today as a sentinel. I waved goodbye, and the others wished him a nice day. He was a nice guy. Had always treated me with respect till I did something stupid and came on to him. I didn’t like him or anything, just wanted to get under Tana’s skin at the time.
“So, where is your man today?” the fire witch asked.
“Oh my Goddess, will you guys stop?” I grumbled, but I couldn’t stop smiling.
“Hmm. Methinks thou doth protest too much,” Maia replied haughtily.
“Okay, look, I am neither confirming nor denying what Tana claims Fin, and I were up to last night, but I can tell you he is not mine. I mean, we only kissed once. No, twice,” I corrected myself, remembering the bedroom kiss.
Yowza.
