He barely registered a thick chain being tossed over an even thicker beam in the ceiling. One of the lackeys was untying his wrists from the chair, and each shift of the thick rope and chains over his extra sensitive skin felt like sandpaper over an open wound.
Jaden gritted his teeth, refusing to give Typhon the satisfaction of knowing that he got to him.
His arms were hauled up backward, straining his sockets to the limit, the pain shooting right into the primordial part of his brain. Jaden stood in an awkward half-bent forward position, like he was bowing before royalty, sweating in pain.
“This looks comfortable,” Typhon said jovially. “Why don’t you bring in the food you’ve prepared for our guest? Make sure to put it at the appropriate distance.”
A bowl of something steaming was brought in by the short man and placed on the chair in front of Jaden.
“Sleep well,” Typhon said cheerfully, and all three men left the room, the door closing behind them with a thud.
The aroma of whatever it was taunted Jaden. He hadn’t eaten anything after his fight because Maddie had surprised him in his room, and then they’d had sex multiple times, andthenhe’d worked out.
He was fuckingstarving.
But even with stretching beyond his limits, there was no way he could reach the bowl of food.
“Appropriate distance indeed,” Jaden muttered to himself mockingly. “Sleep well. Jackass.”
Jaden knew he wouldn’t be getting any sleep that night.
CHAPTER9
Maddie spentthe entire next day on edge, eager to see Jaden again.
Eager and nervous.
She was a little worried that going to his house would be like cornering a caged wild animal.
“See you tomorrow!” she called after Alexander, blowing the toddler kisses that the little boy returned.
With their last charge picked up, she locked the front door with a sigh of relief and joined Hestia in the kitchen.
Maddie picked up the dishtowel and hip-checked Hestia out of the center of the sink. “So what’s new with you?”
Hestia raised an eyebrow. “Nothing. What about you?”
Biting back a grin, but feeling the blush on her cheeks anyway, Maddie felt the overwhelming urge to giggle. “I think I met someone.”
“You think?” Hestia chuckled. “Either you did or you didn’t.”
“Okay, I did.” Maddie hugged herself. “I just don’t know if he’s as into me as I am into him.”
“What’s wrong with him? You’re a catch!”
“Thanks, sweetie. I’m not sure if he’s looking for someone to settle down with, or someone to have fun with.” Maddie picked up a bowl and started to dry it.
“There’s no reason that you can’t have both,” Hestia pointed out. “It would suck if you settled down with someone you couldn’t have fun with.”
“You know what I mean.”
“I do. How many times have you seen this guy?”
“Twice.”
“Who went looking for the other the second time?”
“Me.”
