This was not an unusual occurrence. Several students had come and gone while I’d been sitting at my table.
And yet.
Every hair on my arms stood on end. A ripple of goosebumps washed over my body, as if I’d been standing in a cold breeze for just a moment.
Without even turning around, I knew.
Hehad arrived.
My heart pounded harder in my chest as the seconds passed. My hands shook, my palms instantly going clammy, so I clasped them in my lap.
“I would know you anywhere, my queen,” he said in a low voice. He put his hands on my bare shoulders. “Siobhan.”
I shivered under the feel of his skin against mine, wanting more of it everywhere. I inhaled slowly, breathing in his scent, and my eyes flew open in surprise.
He’d covered up his scent the night before with brimstone, but now that he’d had a shower, I would recognize it anywhere.
How did I not realize who he was last night?I thought, panicking.
Did he know who I was?
Did he think I was a little fool for letting him eat me out when I had no idea who he was?
I swallowed anxiously.
“I felt you enter the library. How?” I asked, still not looking up at him.
He hummed in thought and traced the openings in my sweater, lighting my nerves on fire. “Do you know who I am now?”
I nodded shakily.
“Say my name.”
His voice was close to my ear... Too close.
A gasp escaped my lips. “Aiden,” I moaned.
His hands tightened on my shoulders. “When did you know?”
“Today.”
“You didn’t recognize me last night? Not at all?”
I wondered at the desperation I heard in his voice. “I didn’t know it was you last night, but I felt very comfortable with you. Comfortable enough to play along with your game.”
“Youwere the one to suggest I claim your soul,” Aiden said.
“And you were the one to decide how that would happen. Are you having second thoughts, now that you know who I am?” The question burst out of me before I thought it through.
Aiden growled and my world spun.
Well, not really.
Aiden had picked me up out of my chair, turned me in mid-air, and sat me down again on the table, spreading my legs to make room for himself between them.
His hands in my hair, he claimed my mouth as thoroughly as he had the night before. My body melded to his, arching my back to get closer and hooking my legs around the back of his knees. I couldn’t get enough of his taste. I needed more, and I needed it now.
I had his shirt hiked up his back before he pulled away, a tiny smile on his face. “Darling, we’re in public.”
