He jerked his chin toward the hallway. “Pack a bag.”

I gawked at him, unsure how to respond.

“I meant what I said, sunshine,” he added, softer but no less intense. “You’re mine. I’m not gonna let anything happen to you.”

The possessiveness in his voice had those pesky butterflies swirling in my belly again. So I just nodded before turning to hurry to my bedroom, my pulse hammering in my ears.

I didn’t realize that he had followed me until I dragged a suitcase out of my closet and turned around, bumping against his broad chest. His strong hands gripped my waist, and I tilted my head back to stare up at him. “Oops, sorry.”

“Crash into me whenever you want, sunshine.” His amber eyes filled with heat, the color darkening to an almost molten brown. “Gives me an excuse to get you in my arms.”

I shook my head with a giggle. “After that kiss, I’m surprised you think you need one.”

“Glad to hear that.” His lips curved into a smirk as he dipped his head. “’Cause I don’t want to pretend that’s exactly where I want you to be all the damn time.”

His mouth covered mine, and my suitcase crashed to the floor at my side as I lifted my arms to twine them around his neck. Our tongues tangled together in a deep kiss that left me breathless and wanting more…something that Wesley gave me before I could even ask for it.

He used his grip on my waist to carry me over to the narrow bed, where he laid me down. Then he levered his powerful body over mine, careful not to press me too hard into the mattress.

I gasped when I felt the hard bulge in his jeans, but he stopped and gazed down at me with worry.

“This triggering your claustrophobia?” he asked.

I melted at his thoughtfulness, not surprised that he’d picked up on it, considering how observant he was.

“Not even a little bit,” I rasped.

I should’ve felt trapped. Pinned down. But my world was narrowed to Wesley. Nothing else mattered. Not even my fear of tight spaces.

His lips captured my mouth in another passionate kiss, and it wasn’t long before we were both panting for breath. “Fuck, sunshine. Didn’t bring you home to fuck you. Just wanted to make sure you were safe.”

He had just given me the perfect opportunity to put the brakes on what we were doing before things spiraled even more. I had only met him four days ago, and we’d spent maybe a grand total of an hour together during that time. Maybe it was leftover adrenaline from the note making me throw my usual caution to the wind.

Whatever the reason, I had no doubts about what I wanted.

Lifting my hand, I stroked his bearded cheek. “I’ve never felt safer than right here with you.”

“You’re too fucking tempting. Time to finish what we started,” he muttered before claiming my mouth again.

I clutched his shoulders while his teeth nipped at my lips and his tongue slid against mine. As the kiss grew more passionate, his hand drifted to my breast, and his thumb brushed over the pebbled nipple through my shirt. My back arched, pressing it deeper into his palm.

“Like that, sunshine?”

I breathed, “Uh-huh.”

“Then you’re gonna fucking love this.”

He slipped his hand under my shirt, tugging the soft material up over the swell of my breasts. He lowered his head, his breath hot against my bra cup. It was just simple white cotton, but I didn’t feel awkward over how unsexy it was because there was no missing the desire in his heated gaze. Then my thoughts scattered when he sucked one of my nipples into his mouth through the material.

“Yesss,” I hissed, gripping the back of his head to press his mouth closer to my breast.

His deep chuckle sent goose bumps across my skin. “Only gets better, sunshine.”

My back bowed off the mattress so he could slide his hand beneath me to undo the clasp on my bra. I also helped him lift my shirt over my head, leaving me naked from the waist up. My bare skin prickled as his gaze raked over me, heating even more.

“You’re so fucking gorgeous.”

His compliment—and the masculine approval in his eyes—made me feel as though I was the sexiest woman in the world. But then I remembered how inexperienced I was. And that Wesley deserved to know before this went any further.
