Tavish took the box from her, pulled out the bracelet, and waited as she stuck out her arm. When he clasped it on, he smiled. “Nothing’s too good for my girl. It reminded me of your eyes. Do you like it?”

“Like it? I love it. It’s amazing. And I have something for you.” She’d been wondering what his reaction would be, and she’d know in a minute or two. “I hope you like it.”

“I’m sure I will. Anything you give me will be a treasure.”

“I hope you still feel that way in a minute.” She’d put it under her pillow while he was in the bathroom, and she pulled out the little velvet box that looked suspiciously like her bracelet box. “Here. It didn’t cost much, but it will.”

“Huh? What?” He opened the box and his jaw dropped. “Oh. My. God.”

Her heart was racing. “Like it?”Oh, please, god, let him like it, her mind whispered.

“Does this mean what I think it means?” He pulled out the white plastic stick and stared down at it. “It has two lines.”

“Yes. It has two lines.” She waited as he kept staring at the stick. “So? Do you like it?”

The tears in his eyes surprised her, and his voice was little more than a croak when he said, “This is way better than what I gave you.”Yes!she whispered internally. “But how…”

“Nothing is one hundred percent foolproof. I’ll sure know which birth control pills tonottake next time. Honestly, I don’t think any of them would work with you. You’re up inside me so much that I’m surprised it took this long.”

“Are you complaining, Mrs.Stewart?” he asked, grinning.

“No. I am not.”

“Well, one thing’s for sure. You can’t get pregnant now because you already are.”

“That’s true. So now what? You too tired?”

Tavish laughed loudly. “That’s a really stupid question to ask!”

“Yeah.” Ailsa giggled. “You’re right. It is.”
