“You and I have dibs on cooking dinner the first night Angel doesn’t bring us food.”
“Deal.”
Jade slept for a little over an hour. When she woke up, I changed her diaper and then Grayson and I amused her with nonsense talk. Well, more like bored her. She fell asleep for close to another hour, but when she woke up this time she cried. We figured it was time to wake Sage so she could feed her.
“I guess we need to do something else with this thing, huh? Not sure we’re going to cut it anymore.” After rising from the sofa, Grayson strolled down the hall with Jade in his arms, her wails increasing in volume. He knocked on their bedroom door. “Hey you two sleepy heads, I don’t have the equipment to feed this thing. You might want to take care of her before she morphs into a monster or something.”
I chuckled. Oh my God. How the hell did Sage not beat the shit out of him daily?
The three of them stepped into the living room and Sage settled herself on a recliner with Jade cradled in her arm and lifted her shirt, while Ryder stood behind her, running his hands through her hair. Grayson plopped back down beside me.
“Thank you for taking care of thisthingwhile we napped.” Sage lifted her eyebrow at Grayson, her lips curling up in amusement.
The four of us hung out talking while Sage fed Jade and then for a little while afterward. Then Grayson took me home. It was kinda crazy I only lived about ten minutes from Grayson’s place. The small house I rented with Dani was painted crème with the trim a wine color. It was a modest two bedroom that had a bathroom, living room, and kitchen. It suited the two of us just fine. Neither one of us ever brought anyone home and we normally went out instead of having friends over. So the small place was homey and easy to maintain.
He walked me up the short walkway to my front porch. It was small, but large enough to house a small swing and two wicker chairs with a glass table between them. After a hard passionate kiss goodbye, he pulled away and smirked. “Text me when you know what evenings you are free. And you can sext me anytime in between too.”
“I’ve never sexted anyone before. I may not be any good at it. You won’t make fun of me, will you?” I wasn’t sure I could be as racy as he was used to. I actually feared I might be quite terrible at it and most likely embarrass myself.
“No fucking way. And I’m sure you’ll be perfect at it. And if all else fails, just send me nudes.” He shot me a wink before pressing another quick kiss to my lips.
“I don’t know about that. What if it ends up out in cyberspace somewhere? For anyone and everyone to see?” Shaking my head, I shivered.
“I don’t think you have to worry about that but if it concerns you, then just sexy texts. And then after we’ve been dating awhile, I’ll snap some sexy pictures of you to save on my phone. No sending them. That way you’ll know they’ll be for my eyes only. And I of course will allow you to take some of me as well.” That devilish grin I loved so much crawled across his face.
I rolled my eyes. “We’ll discuss this topic at a later time.” And that time could very well end up never. He could see me naked whenever he wanted, but I wasn’t sure about him housing pictures like that of me on his phone. But time would tell.
“Fair enough. Sext me later tonight.” Trailing his hands down to cup my ass cheeks, he gave them a squeeze. Then he waited for me to unlock my door and step inside before he headed down to his bike.
Once the roar of his engine faded into the distance, I closed my door and released a sigh. Fuck, I really liked him and was going to be spending a lot of time with him. I just had to figure out the dad issue. Shaking those troubling thoughts away as I stood in my living room, I took in a few deep breaths. And immediately regretted it.
Damn, she still hadn’t cleaned out the hamster cage. UGH. Well, I had planned to run the vacuum since I was hoping to be busy this week. I’d give that a cleaning as well. Thank goodness Grayson hadn’t walked me inside. Although I didn’t know how he hadn’t gotten a whiff when I had opened the door. Hoping to get some of the smell to dissipate, I opened the side window in our living room a little to air it out a bit. I’d have to remember to close it as soon as I was done in the shower so it wouldn’t get too stuffy in here. I think maybe it was time to get a decent air freshener to help out with this stinky pet problem.
Deciding to grab a shower first so I could throw Sage’s borrowed clothes in with my laundry and get them back to her the next time I was with Grayson, I strolled back the hall to my room. After stepping inside, I tugged off my clothes and snatched the dirty stuff from my purse to drop all of the items into my laundry basket. For a tiny house, we were blessed with decent sized rooms. The window on the side wall with maroon colored curtains let in the perfect amount of light. The comforter covering my queen size bed matched the curtains and the walls were a soft peach which complimented the darker materials and the wood stains of my dresser and nightstand.
Grabbing a pair of jean shorts and pink tank top, I strode across the hall to the bathroom. It was on the smaller side, but even with a shower, toilet, compact closet, and vanity, the space was sufficient and with the light blue walls it felt larger. When I was finished, I pulled on the clean clothes and then headed to my room to grab the stuff to be washed before walking through the kitchen to the little side room that housed our compact washer and dryer.
On my way back through, I grabbed the vacuum from the pantry and paused at the refrigerator to peruse my dinner prospects. Not much; it would probably end up being grilled cheese and tomato soup. Which actually sounded rather tasty. But one of us needed to stop at the grocery store tomorrow after work.
Heading into the living room, I glanced at the hamster cage with disgust. Why couldn’t I just suck the chips out rather than taking the time to scoop them out? Then when I was finished vacuuming, I could empty the canister into the trash can outside. I liked that idea better and it also saved me having to search Dani’s room for what I would need to do it the normal way. So before I ran the vacuum over the carpet, I connected the hose attachment, switched on the machine, and dipped the hose into the cage. After a few moments, I smiled at how effective this method was and debated whether I should tell Dani about it or not, when without warning a tan and white ball of fur flew out of the purple tunnel Buttons – Dani’s hamster – had been in and into the hose and on into the vacuum.
Releasing a screech, I shut off the machine and stared at it in horror. What had I done?
When my phone buzzed in my pocket, startling me, I jumped. Then as soon as I had half of my wits back together, I pulled it out of my pocket with the hand not currently holding the murder weapon and eyed the screen. Thank God it was Grayson and not Dani.
Tapping on accept, I held it up to my ear. “Oh my God Grayson I told you Dani never cleans her hamster’s cage and it started to smell really bad so I decided to clean out the used chips with the hose from the vacuum and I sucked him up he’s probably all chopped up now I can’t look she’s going to kill me oh my God what have I done?” My words tripped over one another as I released my freak out on one long breath and slumped to the ground.
After a beat of silence, Grayson’s soothing deep voice came across the line. “Breathe Princess. He’s okay. He’s probably pissed off at you so I wouldn’t try to pet him when he comes out. He’ll probably try to bite you.”
“What if he’s just tufts of fur now mixed in with blood and the other lint and dust bunnies in there?”
“There aren’t sharp blades at the end of the hose. He’s not chopped up. Maybe you should call the fire department to rescue him.” I could hear the laughter in his voice.
“Does someone need to get him out?” His amused tone had me breathing a little easier, but I was still worried about the smelly ball of fur. “I can’t call the fire department. I know you’re just teasing.”
“You don’t have to call anyone. He’ll find his own way out.”
While Grayson continued to reassure me the hamster would be just fine, a little furry face, looking quite shell shocked, popped out of the hose and then the rest of him shot out and scurried across the floor. Dropping my phone, I dove after him to catch the fur ball. I didn’t need him getting into anything else that could possibly cause him harm. Surprisingly when I wrapped my hands around him, he didn’t bite me and I set him carefully back into his cage.
