It slid on without issue. “You’ve never ridden with anyone before?” That was hard to believe since he had two helmets.
“Nope. I’ve never wanted anyone to ride my baby with me before.” He slung his leg over the bike. “This is my hobby that I’ve never shared with anyone until you. I ran out and got a second helmet the next day, just in case I ever got the opportunity to ride with you.”
My vision blurred, and my chest ached but in a good way. He’d acted like such an ass this whole time, but he’d been pining for me as much as I had for him. “Well then, let’s ride.” I slid on behind him.
When I wrapped my arms around him, he glanced back. “You better hold on tight.”
And then we were off, and I’d never felt so free.
The next morning,I woke up tingly, warm, and completely content.
In other words, I’d found my home.
I peeled my eyes open to find myself nestled between Raffe’s arm and body, my head on his chest, rising with each breath. His face was relaxed in sleep.
After he’d gotten me to eat three tacos while he’d eaten three big boxes of food, we’d ridden back to my apartment. Lucy hadn’t returned home, and the two of us had passed out in my bed, cuddling.
My stomach fluttered as I finally understood what I’d been feeling on my drive here that first day. This place wasn’t meant to be my home—being in Raffe’s arms was.
I closed my eyes to settle back into sleep, but someone knocked at the front door.
My body tensed. Who would be here this early on Sunday? They must be here for Lucy. There was no way I was getting out of this bed.
Just as I began to drift off, I heard another round of banging.
This time, Raffe moved and then kissed the top of my head. He murmured, “Stay here. I’ll be right back.”
I wanted to pout, but I noticed the skin around his eyes was tight. I swallowed it back. Maybe it was one of his friends, someone who knew he was here and wasn’t happy about it.
Not wanting to pressure him, I moved away from his side, and he was out the door before I could register it.
“Shit!” Lucy shouted from her room just as the front door opened.
Raffe growled so loudly even I could hear it. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
CHAPTER NINETEEN
My blood jolted as my heart raced. From Raffe’s reaction, it could only be one person. But surely Slade would’ve texted me before showing up here, especially after last night.
“I’m here to see Sky,” Slade snapped. “What areyoudoing here?”
Dammit, there was my confirmation. I had to get out therenow.
I tossed the covers off just as Lucy charged into my room. Her eyes were wide, and her hair was tangled, indicating she’d been asleep. She yanked on her oversized sweatshirt and blinked several times. “What’s going on?”
“It’s none of your damn business why I’m here,” Raffe rasped. “Now leave.”
My stomach dropped. “Raffe didn’t tell you?”
“Tell me what?” Her brows furrowed.
“You don’t live here, and you aren’tmyboss, so you don’t have any say in the matter,” Slade retorted.
I had no time for this. “I’ll tell you in a minute.”
I headed into the living room where Raffe was blocking the entryway into the apartment. Slade had his fists clenched and his shoulders back, making it obvious that he wasn’t leaving. Hisjaw was bruised from where Raffe had punched him, and he had to tilt his head up to stare Raffe in the eyes.
My blood fizzed. I could sense Raffe’s raw anger and Slade’s determination and annoyance.
