At least there was that.

The same male voice from earlier popped into Bodey’s and my heads. We need the witch’s help. Now.

CHAPTERTHIRTEEN

The panic pouringfrom three of the pack members closest to us set my pulse galloping.

“Dina, they need you in the basement,” Bodey said flatly, his body tensing.

Her gaze landed on my mate and then me. “What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know.” Bodey gritted his teeth. “But they need younow, so please. Come on.”

Face blanching, she nodded, and they raced toward the door. And, of course, everybody was ready to follow her.

“I don’t think everyone going is wise.” Samuel straightened and looked to Stevie and my parents.

Bodey froze at the door, his frustration leaking through.Samuel, you aren’t in charge, and we don’t have time to debate it.

But Samuel was right, and after all, he’d been trained for this. I hadn’t, so I wanted to hear what he had to say.Go on with Dina, I told Bodey.I hated to separate from Bodey, but it didn’t sound like there was another attack.Just let me know if you need us immediately. We’ll be there soon.He nodded and followed Dina.

“What the fuck does that mean?” Jack’s eyes narrowed at Samuel.

“Let’s see.” Samuel rolled his shoulders and winced. “We have someone here who worked with Queen Kel, and she’s now with her parents. Maybe someone should stay with them.”

I glanced at my parents and sister, who had scowls on their faces. The three of them hadn’t moved from their places on the couch, which meant they hadn’t planned to join us to begin with.

“Everyone go,” Stella said, placing a hand on Miles’s arm. “I’ll stay with them.”

“That works for me.” I pivoted toward the back door, wanting to catch up with Bodey and Dina. However, as I turned my head, I noticed Stevie frowning at me.

My stomach knotted, but I didn’t have time to reassure her. I needed to reach my mate and make sure no one was in danger.

As I jogged onto the back porch, I saw Bodey and Dina reach the stairs that led into the basement of his parents’ house. I darted across the yard as Miles, Lucas, Dan, Phil, Carl, and Michael raced out behind me.

I linked to Carl,Where’s Jack?

He decided to stay with Janet and Stella to keep an eye on your family.Carl’s surprise pulsed through our connection. He didn’t want to risk them being unprotected while we were distracted.

Normally, Jack wanted to be with the action, and this further confirmed what I suspected. Could he and my sister truly be fated mates? That was the only thing that made sense.

As I reached the stairs, Bodey’s horror sucker punched me. Chilled by the cool early March breeze, I hit the bottom of the stairs and yanked open the door.

I froze, causing Lucas to barrel into my back, shoving me forward.

Lucas said something as I caught my balance and stopped just shy of the woman on the ground, but his words bled together.

Everything went out of focus around me as the other guys entered the room.

The wolf shifter was back in human form, completely naked, and lay on the cement floor. She was staring at the ceiling, her brown eyes wide and her breathing ragged.

All my wolf could focus on was the fact that Bodey was touching her. She howled in my head, brushing against my mind, trying to take control. She wanted to rip the girl’s throat out.

“She must have swallowed poison.” Dina placed her hands on the woman’s arm and grimaced.

The shifter who’d alerted us moved behind the girl and lifted her toward Bodey. He said, “She opened the pendant from her necklace and swallowed some sort of pill inside it.”

“Fuck,” Bodey snarled as he crammed his fingers down the girl’s throat.
