Page 40 of Eclipsed Heart

Bodey flashed past me, going for the witch.

Bodey!I yelled, fear taking hold. My adrenaline pumped so hard that the pain in my back ebbed and I could move freely once more.

The witch held out her hands toward my mate and smiled sinisterly. “Make him—”

I lunged and sank my teeth into her arm, but Bodey crumpled, agony twining through our bond.

My heart thudded, thinking he was going to die, so I thrashed harder, making her hand move away from my mate.

“Get off me,” the witch shrieked, but I locked my jaws tighter. I wasn’t going to let this bitch survive after everything she’d done.

When I swiped my claws at her, she cried, “Stop. Please, help!”

But none of them could. They were engaged in their own battles.

The witch must have noticed because her eyes widened. With a ragged breath, she used her free hand to yank off her necklace then tossed it to the ground.

Everything went gray.

CHAPTERELEVEN

No matterhow many times I blinked, smoky gray surrounded me. I spun around, desperate to find Bodey, but I was off balance.

I couldn’t see, and I smelled only lavender. Two of my main senses had just…vanished.

I could still hear and feel, especially the connections in my chest. The fur on my nape rose, and a shiver ran down my spine.

Whimpers echoed in my ears as Bodey’s agony crashed through me, intensifying. Not only that, but frantic, faint ebbs pulsed from the pack links of my twenty pack members and Michael, Lucas, and Miles, and I could sense the essence of the pain Samuel was feeling, though it was nothing like Bodey’s.

The only comparison I had to this sensation was when the ink from the tattoo had swirled around me, but even then, I’d been able to smell things nearby.

This was different.

And though I wasn’t the one in agony, this was so much worse because I didn’t know how to protect any of them…including my mate.

I can't see.Lucas’s voice popped into my head. And all I can smell is lavender.

Snarls sounded, and then someone cried out as they tried to fight.

Shit. Was everyone having this issue and not just me?Can anyone see?My throat tightened.

No,was the response I received from everyone, until Samuel replied,Yes. You’re all covered in smoke.

Another growl came from my left, and I froze. For all we knew, we could be fighting our own people.Everyone bark so we know where our friends are.I didn’t know what else to do since seeing and smelling weren’t options.

A strangled whimper slipped out, followed by awoof.Soon, everyone was making the faint noise, and I noticed that at least three wolves were very close to me.

Back out of the smoke, toward Samuel, and take it slow. If someone attacks and they aren’t barking, then it’ll be our opponents.A part of me wanted us to move forward, but that could be what the witch wanted. The last thing I wanted was to lead my people into a trap.

We’d suffered enough.

The agony surging through Bodey’s connection almost debilitated me, but I didn’t have the luxury of shutting down. I had to find him. He was somewhere in the gray.

I spun in a circle, trying to get my bearings. He had to be close by. I linked,Bodey? I need help finding you.

A faint noise sounded about five feet to my right, and I inched forward, not wanting to trip over him.

Please keep making that noise,I linked to him—and then to the rest of the pack,Be careful not to trip over Bodey. He’s injured and on the ground in this mess.I didn’t know what else to call it.
