“What?” My eyebrow rose as he led me inside and set his guitar in the corner. “I’m surprised you feel that way.”
“I’m ready to make love to my mate.” He bent down and lifted me over his shoulder.
I yelped while Samuel groaned, “Dude, I’m right here, and she’s my sister.”
“Then plug your ears,” he shot back as he jogged up the stairs to our room.
When he reached our room and he tossed me on the bed, I laughed. But once he’d shut the door and removed his shirt, the sound cut off as I took in his bare chest and the curves of his muscles. It was time to connect with my mate.
And we did…multiple times.
* * *
My hands shookas we pulled into the Ontario pack neighborhood, especially since Dina didn’t want to leave the pack and her coven with all the strongest wolves gone. Meaning Bodey, Michael, Samuel, and me. Zeke hadn’t been thrilled about us coming, but we’d already taken too much time to get what little information we had. We’d informed him this morning that we’d gotten a lead and that we were coming to not only reassure Lynerd but to talk to Sybil.
Despite Bodey’s resistance, Jasmine managed to talk her way into coming with us. She’d threatened to take her car and follow us there if we left her behind, so, in fairness, he’d been forced to bring her if he wanted to keep watch over her.
Samuel and Jasmine rode with Bodey and me, but we’d been silent most of the way here. I hadn’t even wanted to play music, lost as I was in my thoughts. I didn’t understand how killing my parents would have benefited Lynerd since Zeke had already been named the Oregon advisor. And if Lynerd was working with Queen Kel, then why would his pack be attacked…unless they were trying to make it appear that he wasn’t working with her? There were so many possibilities churning in my head, and I couldn’t land on anything but more doubt.
Your thoughts have been running the entire time.Bodey rubbed his thumb against my arm.
There’s a lot to consider.I leaned back. The closer we got to Lynerd’s, the more the hair on my neck stood on end.
Bodey kept glancing at me, taking me in.I can’t wait until this is all done. You can redo our bedroom, and we can devour each other multiple times a day.
That sounded so nice.Kinda hard to do with my brother and sister in the same house and Jack sleeping on the couch, trying to convince her to complete their mate bond.My sister still didn’t think she was worthy of Jack, but I suspected he had her coming around after witnessing the long kiss they shared this morning.
He arched a brow.I call bullshit. You were screaming my name in our room this morning. You didn’t give a flying fuck that they were somewhere nearby.
My lips pressed together.Hey, you weren’t quiet either.
Hell no. I want everyone to know you’re mine.He arched a brow.Even your brother and sister.
I snorted, feeling a moment's relief thanks to my mate. I shouldn’t have been surprised.I love you.
I love you more.He winked.
Then, the neighborhood came into view, and my chest constricted. Blocking the entrance was Lynerd and twenty of his packmates.
CHAPTERTWENTY-TWO
My wolf growled, wanting to assert dominance, and a part of me agreed with her assessment. But something could’ve happened to cause them to act like this, so I didn’t want to assume anything…I didn’t want to be like Zeke.
Uh…they don’t seem welcoming,Jasmine linked to the three of us in the vehicle with her and Michael.
That was one way of putting it. Lynerd’s massive frame towered in front of us. But Bodey seemed unfazed. He was taller and just as large as the leader staring us down, and my mate’s wolf was stronger…though Lynerd wasn’t far behind.
Lynerd’s wavy dark-blond hair was mussed as if he hadn’t slept, and there were dark circles under his cognac eyes. He wore jeans and, despite the cool weather, a blue short-sleeve shirt that cut off at his biceps, emphasizing his muscles.
No, they are most definitely not,Samuel replied. If that doesn’t suggest that they’re guilty—
We can’t be sure of that,Michael interjected. They were just attacked. My more pressing concern is why Zeke didn’t alert us to how bad it was.
That was an even better point.
Jack linked with Lucas, Miles, Bodey, and me,Please tell me you’re about to step on the gas and smack down those assholes blocking us from their pack.
Leave it to Jack to hope for us to run over a group of my own people. I rolled my eyes as Bodey replied,They’re only five feet away. How much damage could I do?
