Not me.Something odd was going on, but now wasn’t the time to attempt to figure it out.

The tan wolf kicked its back legs into mine, knocking my paws from underneath me. I clenched my jaws and bit into its tail even harder, blood pouring down my throat and chest.

Protect Samuel and Callie,Bodey interjected as pain sliced through our fated-mate connection.I’ll be fine.

They aren’t attacking me or anyone else here. Just Bodey.I wasn’t going to let him be a martyr. I needed him more than anything in the world.

Stella linked,I got the moms into the car and left the keys with them. I’m shifting now, and I’ll be there to help soon.

I clawed up the tan wolf’s back, using its skin as leverage. It whined in agony.

No, stay in the car,Miles bit out.I’ll get to them.

They disconnected, most likely talking between themselves. I didn’t have to hear it to guess how that conversation was going.

The tan wolf rolled onto its back, pinning me between it and the ground.

Callie is right,Janet linked,Bodey is clearly the target.Out of the corner of my eye, I watched her jump on a marble-gray wolf and try to knock it off Bodey’s back.

The weight of the tan wolf crushed me, and I couldn’t breathe. I pushed up with all four legs as hard as I could, not expecting anything to happen.

The tan wolf flew away from me and smashed into a fir tree. When the wolf’s head hit, I heard a sickeningcrackand then athudwhen its body hit the ground.

For a moment, I couldn’t move. I’d never been able to do anything like that before. But then my mate flashed into my head.

I turned toward Bodey, who was now fighting two wolves. My heart hit my stomach when I saw the state he was in. His dark fur had even darker trails of wetness spreading down his sides and back.

These assholes were going to die.

As I rushed toward him, a pewter wolf tried to sneak into the fight from behind Bodey, his eyes locked onto my mate’s hindquarters.

I hoped my newfound strength wouldn’t disappear now. I crouched then sprang, my injured leg screaming, and hurled myself over Bodey’s body. The air ruffled my fur as I dropped.

For once, Fate was on my side, and I landed behind him, facing the pewter wolf. Its dark eyes widened, and I sank my teeth into its throat. Blood filled my mouth, and I allowed my wolf to take over, jerking my head to the side and killing yet another adversary.

The wolf attacking Theo and Stevie was slapping at them as if trying to keep them distracted. It wasn’t being aggressive but seemed to be using Stevie to prevent Theo from striking, keeping her between them. The wolf was playing with them.

The sound of more wolves racing toward us had a lump forming in my throat. They were coming from the same direction as these ten, which meant they were more than likely enemy wolves. I had to help my matenow.

Janet ripped out the throat of the wolf she’d been fighting.

Help Theo,I commanded as I moved to intercept the blow from the ash wolf attacking my mate’s side.

Callie!Bodey yelped as the ash wolf’s claws sank into my chest.

Fight the other one,I linked to Bodey and stumbled into him, who groaned on impact.

Samuel popped into the links. We’re on our way.

The ash wolf snarled and yanked its claws away then lunged at me. I dropped to the ground and rolled over, and she tried to stop her jump short. I lifted all four paws and sliced into her belly as she stumbled over me. Blood cascaded onto me, soaking my light fur.

A strangled yelp emanated from her as she crashed into a heap, her intestines hanging out.

When I sat up, I saw Stella’s dark wolf pummeling Bodey’s other attacker. With three moves, she had the wolf’s throat ripped out.

My mate slumped to the ground.

No. Not him. He couldn’t be dead.
