Taking a moment, I scanned the area and saw Bodey fighting three wolves at once.
If my two had attacked him, it would’ve been six on one. Why were they targeting him?
It had to be because he was one of Samuel’s guardians.
Theo, protect Stevie and Janet,I linked, ready to end thisnow.
An auburn wolf edged up on the three wolves attacking Bodey. My mate had just risen onto his back legs, fighting the three with his front paws, when the auburn wolf went under its friends. She was going to attack him from underneath.
No.
I threw myself underneath him, surging forward. The wolf swiped, aiming for my mate’s belly, and hit my neck. I barreled into her, knocking her into two of the other wolves attacking Bodey. They fell back as the auburn wolf and I tumbled over each other.
Callie!Bodey linked before the sound of rending skin filled the air.
I braced to feel Bodey’s pain as I managed to roll on top of the auburn wolf and sink my teeth into her neck.
Another wolf steamrolled me, finishing off the auburn wolf by forcing me to rip her throat out. I landed on my side hard, dirt billowing around me. My eyes burned as the slate wolf bit into my right upper foreleg.
With my left paw, I struck at his face, my claws digging into his eyes and snout.
Baby.Bodey sounded broken as his fear clenched my chest.
The wolf whined, and his jaws released me. He took a few steps back, his blood pouring to the ground.
Bodey needed to focus on his own fight. I linked,I’m fine. It’s just a bite.
It’s not just a bite,he spat.
I hurt him worse than he hurt me.That had to count for something…at least, I wanted to pretend it did.
Ignoring the sharp pain, I jumped to my feet and pounced on the injured side of the new wolf’s body, where he couldn’t see me as well.
I bit into his neck, mauling the skin, not wanting to kill him. We needed to take at least one alive so we could question him. I’d try to knock this one out or injure him to the point of not fighting back.
The wolf whimpered as black fur flashed on my right side.
The black wolf must have gotten away from the light-gray one.
She tried to sneak up on me, but it was too late. When she was in striking distance, I dropped away, and the black wolf’s teeth tore into the slate one’s neck in almost the same spot I’d bitten.
I rolled onto my back and sank my teeth into the black wolf’s belly. I bit deep and hard, and she yelped. When I released her, a gaping hole showed some of her intestines.
Acid burned my throat, but a flash of pain shot through me from Bodey.
When I jerked my head in his direction, my entire world narrowed. There were three wolves on Bodey’s back and one tan wolf in front of my mate, ready to strike his throat.
CHAPTERTWO
I jumpedthe ten feet to the tan wolf, Bodey’s pain and terror spinning inside me.
As the wolf struck, I bit into its tail and dug my claws into its backside, pushing it to the ground. Its jaw clamped just millimeters from my mate’s neck before it crumpled.
The Southwest wolves had managed to break our circle apart, leaving Bodey open to attack on all sides. Hot anger boiled through me. I was partly to blame for leaving him vulnerable.
I yanked at every sizable connection in my chest, linking to any- and everyone I could. The wolves here are focusing on Bodey. Both Samuel and Bodey need protecting.
Bodey?Jack linked in shock.Not you?
