Stevie lay on the floor with a knife in her chest. Her shirt was stained crimson, and blood puddled underneath her.
Do you see them?Samuel asked.
Luckily, Bodey was now racing down the stairs to me.
A sob strangled me as I dropped to my knees beside Stevie. Her eyes were open, and they turned toward me as a stream of blood oozed from one corner of her mouth. Her heartbeat was steady but weaker than normal, her breathing shallow.
“Fuck,” Bodey growled and dropped beside me. He scanned my sister, taking in everything.
Even that word wasn’t accurate enough to describe what I was feeling. Yanking on every warm bond, I linked to anyone and everyone nearby.I need someone to bring Dina herenow. My sister is injured and dying.
Three pairs of frantic feet pounded down to the basement, and I wasn’t surprised to see my parents barrel in and drop down on the other side of Stevie.
What?Janet linked.Stevie’s hurt? How the hell is that possible? I’m in the house and didn’t hear a thing.
Right now, that didn’t matter. Kel had managed to not only figure out a way past our wolves on patrol but also to get here without anyone knowing.
Bodey snarled,We all thought our patrol would pick up on any intruders.
This was a clusterfuck.
Miles and I are following Michael and Samuel,Lucas linked, informing us of their plans as Jack ran into the room and kneeled next to Stevie’s head.
Stevie tried to speak, but her mouth couldn’t seem to form words.
Heart fracturing, I sobbed, tears traveling down my face. Taking away her ability to pack link had been cruel, especially right now. But I couldn’t reverse it. There was no witch here to do it.
Her head tilted toward her parents and then back toward Jack.
“Stay with us,” Jack grated out. “Dina’s on her way. She’ll heal you. We just need you to hang on.”
Bodey placed an arm around my shoulders as he linked with the pack,Has anyone located the wolves? They couldn’t have just vanished.
Not yet,the male from earlier replied. But we’re closing in.
I think Samuel and I are catching up,Michael linked.
A lump formed in my throat. If Michael and Samuel caught up to them first, they’d be outnumbered. I couldn’t handle anyone else getting hurt.
Bodey’s arm tensed, and I could feel his conflicting emotions. He didn’t want to leave me but also didn’t like the idea of his dad and Samuel stumbling upon them before more pack members could catch up.
Go,I linked and turned my head toward him.I’ll be there as soon as I can.
His brows furrowed. Are you sure? You’re—
I am, but if someone else gets hurt, I’ll be even worse off.I wanted to go with him but didn’t want to leave my parents alone with Stevie. What if the wolves who’d attacked her circled back? Someone needed to be here to protect them.
I won’t be long, Bodey vowed as he stood and headed toward the door. “Jack, come on.” My mate ran out the door, and I could feel the slight tingle shoot through our connection as he began his shift.
However, Jack didn’t move from his spot. Instead, his cobalt eyes glistened as he cradled my sister’s head.
My heart dropped to my stomach. “Jack, you need to go with Bodey. What if something happens and they corner him? They were targeting him in the last attack.” Bodey couldn’t be out there alone.
“I…I can’t.” His voice broke as he ran his fingers through Stevie’s hair. “I left earlier, and look what happened to her.”
I inhaled sharply as I understood what I was seeing. He was refusing to leave her side, just like a fated mate would. The time he'd volunteered to bring her food and question her added up.
If my gut was right, there was no way he’d leave her side in this condition. And now, my own fated mate was out there on his own, trying to desperately catch up.
