“Oh, all right.”

The seriousness of Brook’s voice made me wonder why he chose to share that information at this moment. He took the job of uncle to a new level.

“Right, so if you ever meet my family, just a fair warning that Sophie likes to spend a lot time with me.”

“All right. Warning heard.”

Was he planning to introduce me to his family?

“You know, because you hate kids and all.”

“Right.”

Do I hate kids?

The only kid I had ever known brought me heartache. I shut my eyes as a memory of holding that lifeless infant before I passed out flashed through my mind, and my heart was pierced with a sudden ache.

Think about Brook.

He had a niece. That was fine. I mean, how often would an annoying little niece be at his house? He didn’t have a house, but he’d mentioned he was looking to move.

I lost my train of thought as soon as I felt the sponge reach my lower back. It was time to forget it all and enjoy the last few moments we’d share for a while. I wiggled my behind with an invitation.

“I wish we had more time,” he growled, and drew the sponge between my ass cheeks. That made me tilt it even higher, taunting him.

“Me too,” I replied, reaching back to his cock, stroking it once, twice, and by the third time, he was at his maximum size, and my fingers could barely wrap all the way around.

“Because if you had a few spare minutes, we could definitely use those right about now.”

“Oh, yeah? To do what?” I teased, lining him up behind me, lifting up on my toes and leaning forward. He slid inside me, and that need to have him fuck me vanished. I just needed us to be connected. As crazy as it sounded, he was that ounce of stability I hadn’t had in years. So instead of rushing, I listened to his grunts and slow jabs, and relished the way he grasped my breasts at the front and pinched my nipples. I lost my mind when his hand came down to my pussy and he rubbed my clit. It took me less than two minutes to come. That was all.

I’d promised him a good fuck tonight, and we ended up making love – twice. It felt surprisingly better than fucking. Still, the most important part of the night was that I wasn’t sorry about cutting him at all.

Chapter 5

Brook: Two months later

Lola’s private plane landed just before noon. It had been two months since I’d seen her. We spoke over the phone often, but it wasn’t the same as having her warm body next to mine. When she called me this morning that she was permanently returning home with Kate, I couldn’t have been happier; but the last thing I expected was for Lola to be carrying a limp body.

I pushed off against the unmarked limo she’d asked me to pick up at Cross Enterprises. My brother followed Lola with a frown. His arm was bandaged and he was limping. Whatever went down in Pace, it couldn’t have been good.

“Come on, Lola. Hand her over,” he called out.

“You’re handicapped.”

“Barely. I can carry her.” Judging by Cameron’s injuries, he wouldn’t be able to lift a cat. Lola, on the other hand, looked exactly like the Superwoman I knew she was.

“I already told you, she goes where I go.”

“What happened?” I asked, but they both ignored me.

“Where are you going to take her?” he asked.

“Cross Enterprises.”

“How do you think she’s going to feel waking up there?” my brother called after her.

“It’ll be hours before she wakes up, Cam, and when she does, I want to be the first person she sees. She trusts me.”
