She came apart around him, shattering by slow, delicious degrees until she completely lost her mind. Pleasure roared through her, exploding geyser-like in time with the powerful rhythmic thrusts of his body into and against hers. She blew up in time with every slow, forceful thrust he made.
She writhed under him, begging with body and words for him to go faster, press deeper, and come harder into her. For his part, his jaw clenched and his stare locked on hers, never straying from her face.
Finally, blessedly, when she was a quivering mass of lust and unbearable pleasure, he set up a slow, strong rhythm, driving into her body with all the strength she’d hoped he would turn loose. She reached up to brace herself against the headboard, and he did the same, his hands grasping hers where they gripped the spindles.
“Hang on,” he ground out as the strain on his face stretched tighter and tighter.
“Let go,” she panted.
He made a sound more akin to a growl than a groan, low and deep in his chest. And then he did, indeed let go, pounding hard and fast into her. Her hips rose to meet his thrusts with all of her unleashed strength as well. They crashed together, their bodies slamming against one another as they drove each other all the way up a cliff of raw desire.
She felt a massive orgasm clawing its way out of her body. And then, all at once, it exploded, utterly destroying her. She arched up off the mattress with a sharp cry that Trevor captured in his mouth. And then it was his turn to shout into her mouth as his entire body clenched and released violently into hers. Pleasure tore them both apart, then put them back together.
She fell back into the pillows, and Trevor followed suit, relaxing heavily on top of her.
“I’m sorry—“ he muttered, gathering himself to roll away.
She cut him off. “Don’t move. You feel amazing, and I’m memorizing this moment for later.”
He laughed under his breath. After all, he was the instructor who’d told her to find a moment of perfect happiness and write it indelibly onto her memory. It would serve as a touchstone for times when she thought she would never be comfortable or safe or warm or dry again.
He dropped a light kiss on her mouth. “I’m honored to be your happy place.”
She finished memorizing every inch of his big, muscular body against hers and the sense of completeness and total satisfaction coursing through her. Theyfiteach other. Like yin and yang, or peanut butter and jelly. They just went together.
“Okay, I’m good,” she muttered.
“Gimme a sec. I’m memorizing this, too.”
“Really? I get to be one of your happy moments?” Wow. She was super complimented at that.
“Anna, you’re not a happy moment. You’rethehappy moment. This—you—are damned near perfect.”
The humor drained from her as she stared up at him, shocked. “I thought a man like you would have women all over the world. That…this…would be old hat to you.”
He rolled to his side, propping himself on his elbow to gaze down at her. With his free hand, he doodled random shapes on her flat stomach with his fingertips. “I’ve had my share of women. But not like you. I don’t have to pretend to be anything I’m not with you. It’s weird that you know me as well as I know you.”
She replied dryly, “I’ve heard that people in actual relationships do, in fact, get to know each other quite well. A sense of friendship and intimacy is considered to be a normal part of these things called relationships.”
“Ha ha.”
“I’m serious,” she replied. “Our work has forced us to learn everything about each other. It makes perfect sense that sex between us would be great.”
“But what if it’s more than just sex?” he asked reflectively.
She wasn’t sure he meant for her to answer. And besides, she had no idea how to answer.
More than sex? As in actual feelings? Like romantic feelings? Caring? Or—
--She shied away from even thinking the L-word. The two of them weren’t even close to going there, and she knew better than to ask for that kind of commitment out of a man like Trevor. His work was his life, and no woman would ever replace that. Particularly not since he considered this to be a one-night stand. He’d been crystal clear about that up front.
She heard the squeak of a gate and a car engine outside.
Trevor swore under his breath and rolled quickly out of the bed, popping to his feet in one smooth, athletic motion. He snatched up his discarded clothing and paused only long enough to drop a quick kiss on her mouth before slipping out her hallway door into the darkness without looking back.
And just like that, it was over.
Trevor was gone.
