"Kai," Syn said again, but she sounded so far away this time because of the pounding in my ears.

I shook my head. "I can't do this." I turned, storming off towards the empty dressing room I'd gotten ready in, slamming the door behind me. Sucking in a deep breath, I stood in front of the full-length mirror, letting my gaze rake over me.

Jax was in his prime. He somehow managed to get better looking with age, and I wasn't as lucky. I was a new mom, and even the forty pounds of makeup couldn't hide the exhaustion on my face, the extra weight I hadn't lost in the eight weeks since Kailyn was born, and all the new stress lines appearing.

My head jerked over my shoulder when a soft knock tapped on the door, and then it slowly opened. "Kaia," Syn said, slowly sticking her head in the door.

"I can't do this," I said, wrapping my arms tightly around myself.

Syn shut the door. "You don't have to do anything you don't want to, but tell me why?"

I shook my head. "Because I'm scared he's going to wake up and realize he could have done so much better." The fear may or may not have been irrational, but regardless, it was real.

"Girl," Syn snapped. "Are you crazy? He's the lucky one, and he knows it."

"He's around these beautiful women who throw themselves at him."

"And I haven't seen him give them a second look. Hell, I'm not sure he even gives them a first look. Your husband is obsessed with you and the tiny little miracle your body carried."

"People are so cruel on the internet, and they already say mean things like I don't know why he's with her. He could do so much better."

Syn raised her shoulders. "Then show them why he's with you. Show them how obsessed he is with you. Stop hiding and show them. Shut them bitches up."

I snorted out a laugh. "How do I do that?"

"Go out there and let your husband worship your body and your tiny family for the whole world to see."

"And what if..."

"Haters gonna hate." Syn snickered, cutting me off. "Let them hate. They are jealous."

The corners of my twitched with amusement. "When did you get so smart?"

"I saw it on a meme or something." She shrugged me off. "So what's it going to be? You going to show these bitches who's boss, or are you getting dressed."

"Well, when you put it that way." I laughed. Sucking in a deep breath, I nodded. "Let's do this."

The door eased open, and Jax popped his head through the cracked opening. "Are you okay?" I nod, smiling. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pressured you into doing this. We don't have to do this if you're not comfortable."

I wasn't completely comfortable with my new mommy's body, but I was ready to embrace it.

"I'm ready." I smiled.

"Are you sure?" I nodded. "Can you tell me what happened?"

Biting down on my bottom lip, I shifted, flicking a glance at Syn. She smiled. "I was worried that after you saw the magazine, you would realize you picked the wrong woman."

His brows creased with worry. "What? Kai, I..."

"I know," I cut him off. "I was letting my insecurities get the best of me."

"Have I done something to make you feel insecure because..."

"No." I huffed out a laugh. Jax always made me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world.

Stepping into my space, his hands curled around my hips. "I love this body," he said, raking his hands up my ribs and around my back. "I love everything about it. The way it looks. The way it tastes."

"Oh gross." Syn sneered. "T.M.I." Jax and I both laughed. "It's bad enough I have to hear you two fucking like rabbits every single freaking night."
