"It really is that simple, Jax. Kaia loves you, and you love her. Done." He leaned forward, propping himself up with his elbows on his knees. "Imagine being in love with someone who's in love with someone else." My gaze flicked over to him. He forced a tight smile, and I realized this was about Cam and Trystan. I nodded. He wanted someone he could never have, and I could have Kaia. I couldn't get out of my head long enough to realize what I was losing.

"Did you and Cam have a fight?"

He shook his head. "No, everything is great, but I know if Trystan calls, she'll be gone."

"That's kind of fucked up."

He shrugged, staring down at the ground. "Cam's never lied about her feelings." His tongue swept out as his gaze flicked up, meeting mine. "Maybe it's time you and Kaia stop lying to yourselves and each other." I ran my hand down my face. "Shit, or get off the pot, Jax." My face twisted with confusion. "I mean either love her or let her go, and by let her go, I mean move on with your life and stop pacing the freaking floor everywhere we go."

"It's too late." I sighed. "Kaia chose him. She changed her whole schedule to be with him and avoid me."

"You're a moron." He rolled his eyes. "She didn't choose him; she chose you. You didn't choose her back, and she didn'trearrange her schedule for him. She did it for you. So that she wouldn't hurt you."

I sucked in a heavy breath of realization as I nodded. "You're right." I pulled my phone out of my pocket.

Jaxtyn: I need to talk to you. Can you meet me after class?

I knew she was skating, so it would be a while before she responded, so I hit the button to close the screen.

The classroom door opened, and Owen and I rose from the bench. My phone vibrated in my hand, and I flipped it over. It was Cam. I hit the end button and shoved my phone into my pocket. I didn't have the energy for her words of wisdom, too.

Owen and I were partnered in different groups, so he went right to meet with his group, and I left to find mine.

The next hour dragged on and on. I tried to focus but could only think about everything I wanted to say to Kaia.

"Jax." My gaze flicked up to see Owen pushing through the class as everyone headed for the exit, worry etched on his face. I pushed out of my chair. "Where's your phone?"

"In my pocket," I said, already reaching to dig it out. "Why?"

"Cam's been trying to reach you." I rolled my eyes. Was that really an emergency?

I flipped my phone, and my eyes widened as panic whirled through me.

"Forty-six missed calls. What the fuck?" I had missed calls from Cam, Harlow, and Syn. Something was wrong.

"It's Kaia, Jax." The panic in his tone felt like it was crushing my soul. My chest tightened, and it was suddenly hard to breathe. I punched one of the missed calls, not caring who I talked to, as I stormed out of the classroom and bolted towards my motorcycle. I'd left everything behind.

"Jax," Cam said, and I could hear the sorrow and pain wrapped so tightly in her voice it immobilized me. "We've been trying to call you."

"Cam," I snapped. "Where's Kaia?" I needed her to tell me Kaia was fine.

"They took her by ambulance to Charity Regional Hospital."

"Ambulance," I repeated. A wave of nausea hit me, and my head spun. "What the fuck happened?"

"Get here now," she said, her voice cracking like she was trying to hold back her tears. "I'll explain everything once you are here."

"Is she okay?"

"I don't know," she choked, a sob breaking free, and I couldn't breathe.

"I'm on my way. Have Harlow or Syn call her dad now."

"We did." I disconnected the call and shoved my phone in my pocket as I grabbed my helmet and shoved it onto my head.

"Jax," Owen shouted from behind me.

"Meet me at CRH." I kicked my leg over my bike, kicked up the kickstand, started the engine, and surged forward.
