To protect her.

To keep the drunk men and their grabby hands off her.

"Don't you boys ever do anything else?" My jaw clenched, and I rolled my eyes at the sound of her voice directly behind me. I didn't bother turning around; I didn't need to. "Oh wait, Kai's working tonight, so, of course, you're here."

"Good to see you too, Cam." I twisted around, forcing a sarcastic smile. Camryn, also known as Cam or Cammy Young, was Kaia's best friend, and unfortunately, they were a package deal.

"You gonna buy me a drink, Jaxy Boy?" Cam smirked, sliding onto the stool next to me.

"Nope," I said dryly, staring off into the crowd. "I don't buy girls drinks."

"Good thing I'm not a girl." She chuckled. I knew she was referring to her womanhood, but I couldn't resist.

"Thanks for the confirmation." I laughed, cocking my head to the side. "I knew that was an Adam's apple." She rolled her eyes dramatically. Camryn didn't resemble a man at all, and she knew it. She was petite with short dark hair and deep brown eyes. She had an athletic body because she was a dancer at some fancy art school by day and a boxer by night.

"Hey, O." Cam smiled, leaning forward on her forearms on the bar to see past me. "Long time no see."

"What's up, Cam Cam?" Owen flashed an all-white smile. Cammy, Owen, Kaia, and I all grew up together. Owen and I were older, and we didn't run in the same crowds, but Cammy and Owen were always at our house growing up, and even in the massive mansion, there were only so many places to hang out, not to mention we all shared a bathroom when everyone stayed over. "I'll get you that drink."

"So, what brings you here tonight, Cam?" I muttered, crossing my arms over my chest as my gaze followed Kaia around the crowded room.

"I'm on a mission," she said. "To get your girl," she shoved a finger into my arm, "laid tonight." I rolled my eyes. "Someone needs to help her get past her insecurities." Camryn definitely wasn't the person for that job.

"Maybe she needs to move at her own speed." I scowled. "When she's ready."

"Maybe she just needs to be fucked," she said.

"Maybe she's not a whore."

The corner of her mouth quirked up. "Takes one to know one, man whore." My lips pulled into a smirk. That was the one thing I liked about Camryn. She gave as good as she got.

"Come on, Cam." Owen smiled, sliding out of his stool. "Teach me some new dance moves." Cam's face lit up as she hopped down from her stool and followed him.

My gaze searched the room for Kaia, finally spotting her in a dark corner, taking a drink order. My eyes trailed down the length of her to the short cut-off shorts that were part of her bar uniform. I hated her bar uniform.

Kaia was a mystery to me. She was incredibly sexy, but she didn't know it. How could she not know it? Was her lack of confidence the real reason she was still a virgin?

My gaze followed her around the room, making sure no one crossed any lines, and by lines, I meant putting a hand on her.

The song ended, and Camryn made her way back to the bar." You're totally giving off creepy stalker vibes right now." Cam laughed, leaning on the bar beside me. I rolled my eyes. "Why don't you just tell her you want to fuck her?"

"Fuck off, Cam.” I whipped back around to lean on the bar. "You have no idea what you're talking about."

"You're not fooling anyone." Cam smirked. "The only person who can't see it is Kaia, and that's only because she's naive when it comes to sexual tension or anything pertaining to sex." She shrugged, throwing back a drink. "She has no idea how men seeher." She laughed. "But you do, don't you?" My jaw flexed, but I didn't answer. I didn't need to. Every guy here had noticed her, but she was always utterly oblivious to it, and it wasn't just that. Flirting went over her head. She confused it for polite friendliness. "You're both fucking adults. For the love of god, just get it over with."

Camryn was one of those overly nosy bitches that you couldn't hide a fucking thing from. She paid way too much attention to everyone else's behavior. So trying to hide how much I wanted to fuck Kaia from her was almost impossible. On top of being nosy, she also had no filter on her mouth. She said everything she thought without hesitation.

"Where's Trystan tonight?" Cam asked dryly.

"With his girlfriend," I lied. Camryn's had a thing for Trystan for longer than I can remember, but Trystan is a free spirit.

She laughed. "Girlfriend?" She shook her head. "He doesn't have a girlfriend." The song changed, and Cam jumped and pushed off the bar. "Catch ya later, Jax."

Camryn danced her way over to join Kaia, who was chatting with Owen and some tall asshole in the middle of the dance floor. The unknown asshole was a little too close to Kaia for my comfort, but I wasn't going to make a scene. Not yet, anyway. He dropped his head to her ear, and his hand slid up, settling just above her ass, and my eyes went wide as her body tensed. Owen's eyes flashed down to the asshole's hand and then back to me just as I pushed off the bar.

"Hey, man." Owen scowled, shoving the guy's hand off Kaia. "No touchy touch." The guy laughed awkwardly, throwing his hands up. Owen wasn't just protecting her; he was protecting me from killing him and going to prison. Which meant I would be off the team.

My gaze scanned over Kaia and the asshole standing next to her. There was no way I was going to let Camryn help her. That was the kind of guy she would send Kaia home with—or worse.
