"Jax, I can't leave Cam."
"Owen is taking Cam home," I muttered as I dropped her into the passenger seat of my car.
Neither Kaia nor I said a word most of the ride to the hospital. I was too angry to talk, and I imagine she didn't know what to say.
"Are you mad at me?" she asked when I swerved into the emergency room parking lot.
"Yes." I threw the car into park and killed the engine.
"Like never talk to me again mad or..." I pushed open the car door, got out, and slammed the car door shut before she could finish. I was murder-someone-level mad, and I couldn't have this discussion with her.
It took us an hour and a half before we made it to the back, got the X-rays, and saw the doctor.
"The good news is you only twisted it," the doctor said. "The bad news is you still need to stay off it for a couple of days so you don't cause more damage."
"I'm a skater," Kaia said. "I have practice tomorrow."
"No, you don't," I said dryly. "You have five days off your feet."
"He's right." The doctor smiled, shrugging. "Take it easy, and you'll be back to normal before you know it."
"Thanks," I said, forcing a smile. The doctor left, and my gaze flicked up to Kaia. "Play stupid games, get stupid prizes."
"Jax..."
I threw a hand out, stopping her. "No." I shook my head. "I'm going to help you into the wheelchair, and we are going home. I don't want to talk to you about anything right now." She nodded.
From that moment until I dropped her on her bed, it was silent.
"Jax," Kaia sighed. "Can we talk about this?"
"No." I shook my head. "I'm going to bed, and maybe we can talk about it when I'm not furious."
Kaia's phone rang.
"That's probably Trystan."
Her jaw clenched. "You ratted me out?" I didn't call Trystan to tattle, but it's not my fault Trystan called when we were on our way to the Cages. I shrugged. "Did you rat Cam out too?"
I shrugged again before pointing at the still-ringing phone. "You should answer that, or he'll just keep calling." I spun around and strolled out of the room, closing the door behind me.

My gaze followed Jax as he slammed the door behind him. I knew he'd be mad, but I didn't realize he'd be this angry.
My phone buzzed again. "Shit.” I held my phone in front of me. I could handle Trystan being mad at me, but the truth was they were both going to take it out on Cam when, in reality, it was my choice to go.
I swiped right, smiling for the camera as Trystan's face lit up the screen.
"What the fuck, Kai?" Trystan snapped, anger illuminating his face. "The Cages? Really?"
"I know it was stupid." I sighed.
His jaw flexed as he shook his head." Are you okay?"
I nodded. "I'm okay. I have to stay off my ankle for a few days, but then I'll be back to normal."
"Why would you go to the Cages?" I wasn't going to answer that. I wasn't going to bring her into this. So I said nothing. "Cam, right?"
