"Cam," I shouted. "Shut the fuck up. Where is Kaia?"
"There was a fight, and she never came out."
"Cam," I snapped, grabbing and squeezing her shoulders. "I don't need the whole fucking story right now. I need you to tell me where Kaia was so I can find her."
"I'll show you."
"Let's go." I released her and followed her into the old abandoned warehouse.
The cage fights were still going on, but the warehouse was less packed than it usually was on a fight night. The fight that Kaia disappeared into must have cleared it out some. I followed Cam to the right of the door.
"I left her here."
"You left her?" I assumed they got separated during the fight, but she left her. She brought her here and then left her. That made my blood boil a little hotter. She opened her mouth, sorrow covering her face. I threw my hand up, stopping her apology or excuse or whatever was about to come out of her mouth. "Never mind. Owen, take Cam home, please."
"No, I need to..."
I twisted, stepping into her personal space so quickly she flinched. My fists balled at my sides, and my nostrils flared. She felt the anger radiating off me because she stepped back, and Owen put a hand on my shoulder. I would never hit Cam, but I wanted to throttle her right now. "You need to leave. Now." Anger colored my tone.
"Come on, Cam," Owen said. "Jax will let me know when he finds her." I nodded. Owen slipped his hand into Cam's and led her away. Twisting around, I ran a hand down my face, and when my eyes opened, they landed on Kaia's phone on the ground. I knew it was hers because it had the same pink cow print cover. Kaia loved anything cow print.
Grabbing her phone off the ground, I shoved it in my pocket. I had no idea how I was going to find her or if she was even here. She had no phone, and then it dawned on me. Her watch. If she had her Apple watch on, I could track her location. I pulled her phone out, punched in her passcode, and pulled up the find-my-phone app. After about thirty seconds, it found her watch.
She was still in the building.
It didn't give me exact locations, but it would hopefully get me close enough to the area she was in. With her phone in my hand, I pushed through the crowd to the opposite side of the Cage, and the phone indicated I was getting closer. I stopped in front of a set of double doors with no windows. My gaze flicked from the doors to the phone. It looked like I needed to go through these doors. I pushed through one side and stepped into a dimly lit long hallway.
According to her phone, she wasn't far from me. I picked up my pace, stopping at each doorway to check for her.
"Owwww..." My heart clenched. That was Kaia's voice. I bolted to the doorway where the voice was coming from, swinging around the corner into the open doorway. Kaia was sitting on a stainless steel table with a tall, topless man standing in front of her.
"Get the fuck off her," I growled, surging forward, ready for a fight.
"Jax," Kaia called out. "No. Stop. Jax." I didn't stop.
"Woah, man." The man was obviously a fighter because he was still dressed in his fighting shorts and wrapped in tape. He threw his hands up in surrender.
"He was helping me, Jax."
I stopped.
"She got knocked down in a fight, and I pulled her out." He pointed to her ankle. "I tried to talk her into going to the hospital to have that looked at, but she's stubborn."
I blew out a heavy sigh. She was okay. "Thank you," I said my head to him as I moved to kneel in front of Kaia to check her ankle. "I'll take it from here."
"It was nice to meet you, Kai," the fighter said as he backed out of the room, and I rolled my eyes. I kept my gaze on her ankle because if I looked up and she was smiling at him, I was angry enough that I might have killed him.
"Are you okay?" I asked once we were alone as my gaze scanned her ankle.
"I'm okay."
"Your ankle is pretty swollen. I'm going to take you to the emergency room to have it checked out."
"Jax, I'm really okay."
"You're going," I said, pushing to my full height. I scooped her into my arms, and she wrapped her arms around my neck.
She didn't say a word until we stepped into the darkness outside.
