"What do you want to do tonight?" I smiled. "Just me and you."
"Anything?" she asked, tilting her head and raising her brows, and I somehow knew, at that moment, I was agreeing totrouble. But if it made her happy, I'd do it. I nodded. "There's a fight at the Cages tonight. I want to go."
My expression faltered. I knew nothing about the Cages other than that Jax didn't want me going and Trystan didn't want her going, but they never really explained why. Jax also had a tendency to be overprotective and dramatic. "Are you fighting?"
"No," she said. "I want to check it out before I agree to fight." Cam was an adrenaline junkie who lived for the thrill, and I was not. It was why we made the perfect pair. We balanced each other out. I knew if Trystan were here, he'd stop her from going, but she needed this because he wasn't here.
"If I say no, are you going to go anyway?"
"Probably." There was no way I was letting her go alone.
I shrugged. "I'm in." What was the worst that could happen?
"Be ready at eight." She ran her fingers through her short, dark hair, pushing it out of her face.
"Should I invite Jax?" My gaze flicked out to the rink where Jax and Owen were slowly skating toward us.
"If you do, he'll lock you in your closet so you can't go." I knew she was right, and I also knew that wouldn't stop Cam from going alone, so I nodded, but I couldn't help but wonder what was so terrible about the Cages.
"Hey," Owen shouted from the ice up the five rows to us. "What are you two doing tonight?" My gaze flicked down, locking with Jax's.
"We are having a girls-only night," Cam said, her lips quirking to one side. Jax narrowed his eyes, and I broke eye contact. I was a terrible liar. I mean, technically, we weren't lying. We were having a girls-only night, but if he asked any other questions, my face would give it all away, and we both knew it.
"Sounds like my kind of night." Owen leaned forward on the wall.
"Girl's night." Cam rolled her eyes. "Hint hint, no boys allowed." She shrugged. "Sorry."
"What are you two doing tonight?" I asked.
"Boys night," Jax answered, the corners of his lips curved up. "No girls allowed."
Jax and Owen skated off when their coach shouted for them.
"Why do you think Jax and Trystan didn't want us at the Cages?" I asked as my gaze followed Jax back to his team.
She shrugged. "I don't really think it was about us going. I think it was about me fighting. There aren't any rules, and it can be dangerous, but I'm not fighting tonight."
"So we're doing this?" I asked, making sure Cam really wanted to do this.
"Trust me." She smiled. "It will be fun. There will be tons of hot single guys, too."

Cam swerved her car into the dirt parking lot of an old abandoned warehouse in the middle of nowhere, and I suddenly felt overdressed in the little black dress and black strappy heels Cam told me to wear. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn't this—a dark and dirty old abandoned building in the middle of nowhere surrounded by old farm fields. A chill raced up my spine as my gaze surveyed the vacant property.
"Is this illegal?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest as we strolled toward the warehouse. I don't know why, but it never crossed my mind before now that this might be illegal. Was it illegal to even be here? Everything about this felt illegal.
"Technically, yes," Cam said. "But we are so far off the grid we will be fine." She said it so confidently that I almost believed her. My dad would kill me if I got arrested. "Listen, if anything happens, just run. Call me when you are away safe, and I will come get you."
"What the fuck, Cam?" I whisper-hissed. Now I was worried.
"It's fine, Kai," Cam said. This was a normal thing between us. I freaked out about everything, and she worried aboutnothing and believed that everything would work out, and I did not have that belief. Typically, we balanced each other out, but I couldn't shrug off the bad feeling I had.
The parking lot was quiet enough to hear the announcer as we got closer to the door. My heart pounded with anticipation and fear of the unknown. What was I walking into?
Two large bald bouncers wearing all black stood guard at the entrance.
"What's up, guys?" Cam smiled.
