"Water, Kai. Really?" Cam rolled her eyes when she spotted the water. "Let loose and have some fun."

"Looks like I'm the DD again."

"We'll get an Uber," Owen said. "If that's what you're worried about."

Parker's gaze flicked to me. "Do you want something else?"

"What the hell." I threw up my hands. I was always the responsible one; I was always the one who took care of everyone else, and tonight, I just wanted to have fun. Plus, alcohol would help me care less about how Jax was smiling at the redhead.

"You ready for a refill?" the same redhead Jax had been talking to asked Cam. She was our waitress. Wonderful.

"Four Jolly Ranchers," Cam said. She knew I loved Jolly Rancher shots.

"And a whiskey," Jax said, sliding onto the stool beside Cam.

"Actually, make that two whiskeys," Owen said.

"Anything for you, darlin'?" the redhead flashed her perfect white smile to Parker.

"Nope," Parker said, raising his beer.

"I'll grab your drinks and be right back." She winked at Jax, but Jax's gaze was zeroed in on Parker.

"Who the fuck are you?" Jax asked in his fuck off tone.

"This is Parker, my new skating partner," I answered for Parker. "Parker, this is my stepbrother Jax."

"What's up, man?" Parker said, extending his hand, but Jax was being an ass. His less-than-amused gaze flicked to Parker's hand before it cut to me. Parker's brows pinched as his hand dropped to his side.

"Don't mind him." I smiled at Parker. "He's an ass." My gaze cut to Jax, flashing him a warning look.

Jax didn't take my warning look seriously. "I'm only an ass when I don't like someone." The tone in his voice was lethal, his fuck around and find out demeanor came through loud and clear, and the daggers he was shooting from his icy blue eyes were aimed directly at Parker.

Parker stood across from Jax, beer in hand, as he blinked in confusion, his stare flicking between Jax and me.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?" I clenched my teeth. Jax's gaze didn't waver as his jaw ticked. "Now, Jax!" He rolled his eyes but pushed out of the chair at the same time I did. I stormed out the front door, whipping around once I heard the door shut behind Jax.

"What the fuck is your problem?" He shrugged. Exhaling, I rolled my eyes. "What's going on, Jax?"

"I don't know what you mean, Baby Cruz." My jaw clenched at the stupid nickname.

"I mean, you've been avoiding me since the night in the hotel, and now you're acting like an overprotective dickhead."

"Kai, this is who I am." He took a step forward, crowding my space. "I fuck around with women, and then I avoid them forever. The problem is I can't avoid you forever."

"Why, Jax?"

"There doesn't have to be a reason for everything, Baby Cruz." He shrugged. "It's just who I am, and you can't fix me."

I knew this was who he was; I just didn't think this was who he was with me.

"You know what, Jax." I held my hands up, surrendering. "I'm done playing these stupid high school games. Grow up, or just stay away from me. I can't keep up with you, and to be honest, I'm starting to get whiplash."

"Kai." He sighed, suddenly apologetic.

"Save it, Jax." I held my hand out like I could physically stop his words. "Lay off my date and go fuck yourself." I spun on my heel, storming back into the bar and back to the high top where I'd left Cam, Owen, and Parker. I froze, my eyes narrowing. And apparently, Trystan— who was in Jax's seat shooting daggers at Owen and Cam on the dance floor.

"Not you, too," I grumbled, sliding into my seat next to Parker. "Seriously, you and Jax need to get your shit together."
