"I told her I'd give you a ride home," Jax said behind me, startling me.
"Why?" I groaned, following him to his car. I didn't want to ride with Jax. I was irritated with him. He shrugged, popping his trunk open and tossing his gear inside.
"Who was that you were skating with today?" he asked, sliding into the car.
"My new partner," I said. "And he's taking me out tonight."

Parker showed up precisely at eight to pick me up, and thankfully, I was the only one home, even though I expected Jax to be here. I wasn't sure what was going on with him, but I was done trying to figure him out. I was going to enjoy my night.
We decided to go to the bar Dirty Habits, one of the best bars in the area. They had live music, and it usually wasn't super crowded during the week.
"You grab a table, and I'll grab some drinks," Parker said when we pushed through the bar doors. "What do you want?"
"I'll just have water." I smiled.
"Water?" He laughed. "We came to a bar for you to have water?"
I shrugged. "I'm not much of a drinker, but I love the music."
The corners of his lips curled up. "Water it is."
Parker took a right toward the bar, and I took a left to find a table, spotting Owen and Cam at a high-top table.
"What are you guys doing here?" I laughed, strolling up to their table. This wasn't their typical bar of choice.
"Kai," Owen smiled, "we are on a date. What are you doing here?"
"I'm here with Parker," I said. "My new skating partner."
"I didn't know you had a new partner," Owen said. "Good for you."
"You guys should join us," Cam said.
"Oh, no." I scowled. "I don't want to interrupt your date.
"Don't be silly," Owen said. "Plus, Jax is our third wheel anyway." He nodded toward the bar, and I spotted Jax smiling at a pretty redhead. Jealousy bloomed in my chest, and I wasn't sure where it had come from. It wasn't like I'd never seen Jax with a girl before. I couldn't count the number of women I'd seen him with, but for some reason, seeing him tonight with her created a weird mixture of irritation, jealousy, and hurt within me.
"Is he on a date?" I asked.
Owen and Cam both laughed. "Jax doesn't date," Owen said. "Jax takes girls home, fucks them, and never talks to them again."
"I guess she's the lucky one tonight." I frowned.
Owen shrugged. "I don't think I've ever seen her before, so he's probably feeling her out right now to see how easy she is. He was also already drunk when he showed up, so he may end up going home alone tonight with a whiskey dick."
"What the fuck is a whiskey dick?" I flashed a look of horror, and Owen and Cam erupted with laughter.
"It's when you drink too much, and your dick stops working," Cam said. "But it's better than sloppy drunk sex that never ends." I laughed, not because I'd experienced what she was talking about but because it was something she'd given me a visual of with a guy she was dating last year.
"There you are," Parker said, and I twisted to see him carrying a beer in one hand and a bottle of water in the other.
"Parker, these are my friends Cam and Owen." I pointed between them. "Guys, this is Parker."
"What's up?" Cam said. "You guys should join us."
"Sure," Parker said, handing me my water.
