Mckenna takes my hand to move it around in the air. As if we’re dancing. Gnash’s singing voice can break glass. Jax replaces words when he doesn’t know what comes next.

The sun goes down over the mountains. We’re jamming out like we're teens again. Gnash suddenly swerves. The car runs off the road and hits a huge rock.

MCKENNA

Iwake up. Another throbbing headache arises. This time in my prefrontal cortex.

My vision is hazy. Everything’s dark and smoke is coming out of our engine. The last thing I remember is screaming. Then everything went black.

One my vision clears, I stare in horror at the other three. They’re passed out in their seats. Thank goodness for the seatbelts.

I look out the window. The stars are out. We must’ve been knocked out for a while. It was barely sunset before we crashed.

I unbuckle myself to check for their pulses. Mace and Gnash’s pulses are beating faintly, but not Jax’s. I feel for it on his wrists then on his neck. When I get nothing, I put a finger underneath his nose.

He’s not breathing.

“No, no, no, Jax hold on,” I say.

I need to get them out. What if the car suddenly explodes? Hurry, Mckenna, hurry.

I try to get out through the door, but it doesn’t move. It opens by an inch only. When I peek through the crack, I see a huge rock blocking the opening.

“Fuck! It’s fucking jammed!”

My heart races. I’m already sweating buckets. There’s a lump in my throat. What if I’m not fast enough?

I just resort to kicking the damn door. It hurts like a bitch but I’m getting through. After a few more kicks and possibly spraining my ankle, the door opens.

I jump out of the car. We landed far from the road. Why did Gnash swerve so suddenly? There aren’t any cars coming or going.

I bolt to Mace’s side. I unbuckle him and drag him out. With his huge size, he falls on me. In a second, I regain balance before we fall on the dirt.

After safely placing him far from the car, I go get Gnash. He’s somehow heavier than Mace, despite having a similar build. I have to put him on my back to take him next to Mace.

My energy is drained by now. Even if I’m running back and forth, I still feel like I’m going too slow. I still need to get Jax out.

Jax’s side is blocked by a boulder, making it impossible for me to reach. When I go through the driver’s seat, I can’t lift him up. His seatbelt got stuck on the other side.

The seat itself moved to the very front, against the dashboard. I’m barely noticing that now. It’s fucking stuck. Jax is stuck.

I get out of the car and run towards Mace. He’s still unconscious. I shake him by the shoulders.

“Mace, wake up! Wake up!”

No response.

I start doing chest compressions. I do it as hard as I can, to reach his heart. I don’t stop until I hear him cough awake.

I don’t let him process the accident. I tug at his arm. Tears stream down my face.

“Jax! Get Jax! I’ll wake Gnash up!” I urge him.

His eyes dilate and he runs off to Jax. I wipe my tears then turn my attention towards Gnash's. My arms burn with how fast and hard I do the compressions.

Gnash wakes up, coughing as well. I smack his back to aid him a little. He looks around us. His eyes widens at the sight of our vehicle.
