I nod in agreement. We can’t be talking about the future when it’s uncertain. But, I guess having this slight heart to heart with him is a start. It brings tears to my eyes knowing that Jax won’t see it be fruitful.
I gesture for Gnash and Mckenna to get out of the car. The latter walks cautiously towards us, probably sensing if there’s hostility. Gnash, surprisingly, doesn’t get in Drario’s face, demanding why he’s here.
Instead, Drario extends his hand and pats Gnash on the shoulder. It catches him off guard and he quickly looks at me. I simply lower my head, gesturing that it’s fine.
“I’m really sorry about your loss,” Drario says.
Gnash flinches. “Thanks,” he mutters.
We all head upstairs. The night’s not getting any younger and we have to get ready. Dawn approaches quickly. We just need to iron out the plan and be good to go.
Gnash sits on the edge of the bed. Mckenna at the desk. Drario leans by the window. I just stay standing.
“Where should we begin?” Mckenna says first.
“I guess where to walk, how to get in, or something of the sorts?”
She lays out the blueprints on the desk. She guides her finger across the paper. Drario doesn’t pay much attention. He’s the only one that hasn’t seen the blueprints.
Suddenly, she claps her hands together.
“Okay. I’ll be the one to enter the building. I’ll pretend that I was kidnapped and that I need protection.”
The rest exchange looks.
Drario scoffs. “Is that where we’re starting?”
“Well, yeah? What other excuse can I come up with to get near him?”
“That’s too simple, Mckenna. Is your father even going to believe you? He has that whore to not vouch for your lies.”
She shrugs. “I don’t know. That’s why you three need to take the sewers that lead into the lab while I distract him.”
“Are sewers really the only option? C’mon, I just got out of a jail cell,” Gnash complains.
I have to agree with him. Rummaging through miles and miles of human waste doesn’t sound exciting. I honestly expected to barge in there in wolf form and get it over with. When I mention my idea to Mckenna, she shuts it down.
“I know you guys are strong and powerful and whatever. But you three can’t go against an entire lineup of automatic rifles. Even in wolf form. The building’s tapped out with security. There might even be snipers hidden in there. I’m sorry, but the sewers are the only way to get in the lab.”
The three of us collectively gag and cringe. Mckenna rolls her eyes. It’s easier for her since she doesn’t have to walk in a river of shit. Whatever, I guess.
She continues with the plan. “Once you gay enter the lab, the alarms will go off because you’ll have to break the door. Dr. Sporsey, thatscientist, will be working that day. Kill him immediately and destroy all the vats. Double-check after.”
“This is still based on us guessing that he’s the only one that knows the recipe, right?” I ask.
She nods. “I’m holding out A LOT of hope that my father doesn’t have copies of the recipe. For now, we have to assume that he doesn’t want to risk any information leaking out, so he just has one extremely secured.”
“And if he does? We can’t split up to find the other copies of it,” Drario says.
“I’ll keep an eye out when I’m distracting him. You guys also have to know he’s not the smartest man around. Very narcissistic but not that bright.”
It’s good enough for me to trust the plan. An ambitious and greedy man like him will only work with those emotions. He’s bound to make slip ups.
“You’ll have to destroy the vats using these,” Mckenna says.
She walks to the part of the hotel room that has the coffee maker set up. She grabs two packets of sugar. She hands them to me.
“The sugar will interact with the potassium chloride solution in the mixture.”
