Their stupidity makes me wonder why they would come up with a human mating serum? It doesn’t make sense. Why would they spend their time doing that?

The endless possibilities as to why run through my mind. It’s not like there’s a low birth crisis among humans. Unless they’re trying to put some shit like Hitler did. There’s no reason to not believe they’d try to create the perfect human specimen.

I can’t be sure of it yet. McKenna's note didn’t go into detail about it. All I know is that every time we go through this shit, something even bigger and deeper is going on.

McKenna shifts in my arms. I can’t help myself but nuzzle against the top of her head.

“We’re almost there. Don’t worry,” I say, in case she hears me.

I hear Drario scoff behind me. I ignore him, still pissed off at what he did to McKenna. Once we’re out, I’ll settle it with him.

Finally, there’s an exit door just to the far right of the long hallway. It must be another secret door with the lack of security on it. Just one kick is enough to open it.

The cold and dry desert air hits my face. We’re out. All that’s left is to put distance between us and these bastards.

We manage to find refuge at an abandoned house far away from the Wilder building. The whole house is made of rotting wood. The previous owners left some of their belongings like a wooden table that’s missing a leg and an old mattress,

There’s a brown stain on the mattress so I’l just put McKenna on the floor.

Jax cringes. “Ew, the floor’s dirty. There’s a bed right there.”

“It has a shit stain on it.”

He gags as a response. I check on McKenna's body, still painted with bruises and cuts. I try to heal her but Drario’s hounding me from in front. I have to heal her quickly before he loses his shit on me again.

“How could you frame us? That’s forbidden among the clans and you know it!”

“It doesn’t matter! You went against them so Insignys is going to be after you anyway!”

“That still wasn’t your fucking place. You still put a target on our head with the shit you pulled. Are you always trying to save your own ass?”

He steps closer to us. I stand up so he doesn’t take another step. Jax kneels down next to McKenna to continue to heal her.

“It was out of desperation. I know damn well you’d do the same to survive. I had to protect my own.”

Drario scoffs. “Yeah, I’m sure the girl you’re fucking was the reason you framed us. Never done it before but she comes around and you stab us in the back?”

“I didn’t know you were alive, Drario!”

“So? Even if I was buried deep in the fucking ground, you shouldn’t have done that! You put my innocent wolves in danger. You wouldn’t like it if I did it to you, right?”

“I’d understand if you had no other option!”

He shoves me. “No, you wouldn’t!”

Jax gasps behind us. For a different reason.

MCKENNA

“You better stop fucking pushing me before I rip your throat out!”

The first thing I hear is yelling. My heart sinks in my chest. I’m still at the Wilders’ building. Mace is dead and I’m trapped by myself.

“She’s waking up!” I hear Jax say.

My mind slowly comes to. Relief washes over me hearing that idiot’s voice. Pain throbs throughout my entire body. Especially my neck and head where Dave hit me.
