This time I shove him off, successfully. I go to another monitor that’s hidden against the wall. I do the same process, with more numbers and codes inputted. After my handprint scan, there’s a series of beeping. The words ‘COLLARS DEACTIVATED’ pop up on the screen.
There’s a sinking feeling in my gut. I just wanted to rebel against my father. How long is this asshole shifter going to keep me kidnapped?

The trackers are finally deactivated. I don’t know how much longer we’d be under surveillance if I didn't find out. To think there are other clans completely unaware of this.
After getting that done, we exit the facility. I pull McKenna by the arm to avoid having her escape. Not that she’d be able to outrun me. It’s just one less hassle for me to deal with.
“You’re hurting my fucking arm,” she grunts, trying to pull away.
I pull her towards me. “I don’t give a shit.”
“It’s not like I’m going to fucking run away from you, you jerk.”
“Yeah, well, I’m not taking my chances. I saw how good of an actress you were back there. How should I know you won’t pull that shit with me?”
“Because it’s not convenient for me to do it,” she says.
We walk further away from the doors when we stop on our tracks. In front of us, Jax stands around nine dead bodyguards. He’s covered in blood, nevermind the actual victims. He’s panting, as if he just finished the job.
He wipes away at his face. He gets bloodier than intended. It looks like he just went out hunting more than anything. I rarely see such a violent sight on Jax.
When we walk closer, he snaps his head towards us. He hunched over his back to pounce on us. When he realizes who we are, he relaxes his posture.
“Oh, it’s just you guys,” he breathes in relief.
“What the hell happened out here? You did this by yourself?”
He shrugs bashfully. “It started off as two but then it got to nine. I was freaking out that they’d get to you so I guess I kinda lashed out.”
“You’re telling me.”
I kick around the bodies to make sure none of them are still alive. From the corner of my eye, I can see McKenna look at me with disgust. Whatever, it’s not like she’s ever had to dirty her hands for survival. I do have to admit it stings me just a little bit.
I pat Jax’s shoulder. “You did well. Any of them get you?”
He lifts up his shirt. “Two bullets grazed my hip but they’re healing already.”
Blood oozes from his right hip to his pants. One hole’s smaller than the other one, turning pinkish. The fresh wound is still in the process of pushing out the bullets. It looks disgusting, like a botfly wriggling out.
I wince. “You sure?”
“Yeah, yeah. They don’t hurt as much anymore. One of them got my back but I don’t know if it’s a bruise or a cut.”
“Let me see.”
He turns around to lift up his shirt. It is neither a cut nor a bruise. It’s a full blown gash. I’m surprised he doesn’t feel it.
I’d be worried if he wasn’t standing idly, showing me his injuries. I have to be on every wolf’s case regarding injuries. They take their sweet ass time letting me know. It causes more problems in the long run.
I sigh. “I think you’re still running on adrenaline. If the fucking gash still hurts you, you need to fucking tell me. Got it?”
He nods then glances at McKenna then at me. “Did you get it fixed?”
I nod. “Yeah. Saw her do it when it happened. We’re in the clear.”
