"What was that for?" he glanced at her quizzically, with both hands on the wheel.

"Because I wanted to," she said and sat back into the seat.

Rafe turned the car west as the top of the sun crested the horizon, chasing back the darkness of night with a bright yellow-orange hue.

I've had worse mornings than this.

Thirty

Rafe

What dumb fucking luck!

He's always wanted to test one of these babies and put the pedal to the metal, but never had time. Rafe turned the key and the power of the engine's roar sent vibration's up through his body. He smiled childishly as the want, no need, to race it swelled up inside him.

What a car!

Layla shouted and immediately thoughts of this morning's struggle with the woman came back to mind and forced his temporary lust of the car away. He peered over at her and seen that she was rubbing her head and looked angrily at him.

"Damn!" she cried out, and glared at him.

Uh-Oh!

"That's what you get for looking back!" Rafe said as he tried to lighten the mood in the car.

No such luck. Damn!

As difficult as it was, he tried to remain focused on driving. But thoughts of the female standing in the light of our hotel room wearing a PEACE uniform, kept creeping back in.

He heard Layla in the back of his mind saying words, but he didn't really hear them. Instead, he was arrested by thoughts of this assailant that almost bested him in the early morning hours. Rafe was definitely caught off guard-not to mention naked-by a female wolf that could fight like hell.

She must've liked what she saw…

He smiled saucily as he recalled her comment about his tube steak.

He was a trifle bit unnerved that the woman was able to sneak up on him, unnoticed. She was quite stealthy and must have waited until the right moment to come in. Man, as great as sex was with Layla, it did a number on his ability to remain alert.

Never had sex like that before…Fucking amazing.

However, the wolf-agent shouldn't have been able to sneak in like that, but the stealth and agility she presented in the attack, spoke more about her training as an agent. She could swing a blade with deadly accuracy and apparently not think twice about it.

The female was certainly a wolf too. Although she was shorter than him, she held her own with her barrage of kicks and punches. Her senses were as keenly honed as her fighting skills were. She moved swiftly and quietly, until Layla found the nerve to stop screaming and turn the lights on. With the flip a switch, the fighting ceased and they just stood there, dumb-founded, yet dismally aware of the others capabilities.

There, in the light, she shifted back to human form and dropped the blade to wield a pistol instead. It was a quick reversion, but not so fast that Rafe couldn't get a look at her.

A wolf in PEACE's clothing…

Odd, but not unheard of.

PEACE wasn’t an organization dedicated to oppressing supernaturals. They’re ostensible mission was to keep order within the United States and prevent a full fledged civil war between metahuman supernaturals and ordinary humans.

The authority to prevent civil violence extended to declaring martial law and taking over towns and municipalities. Rafe knew that PEACE was powerful. But rogue agents within PEACE were even more dangerous.

He checked the mirrors for any sign of a car tailing them. As if she had heard me, Layla turned in her seat and looked out the back again. "At this pace, I don't think they can catch us."

As he veered the car to the right, it squealed its tires in hot protest. "This baby's got some get up!" He smiled over to Layla, who appeared less than impressed.

You're no fun. Note to self: Layla isn't a morning person.
