I freeze at the seriousness in his voice. “Why?”

“It’s not safe to wander around the city. Especially when you’re distracted on your phone.”

“I’m only distracted because I’m talking to you.”

“Go back inside.”

This is unlike Trey. Ordering me around is normal. The edge in his tone is different. “Okay.” I turn around and go back inside, holding out my badge to security so they can scan it.

“I’ll pick you up at five.”

“I can meet you somewhere for dinner.”

“No. Stay at work until I come to get you.”

“Trey. What’s going on?” My hands begin to shake. This is something more than him suspecting I’m sleeping with Nolan.

“I don’t have time to talk about this right now.”

“Are you okay?” I fall to a bench in the lobby. “Is Nora okay?”

I know what had happened with the Irish mobsters, and Drake and Trey had promised she was safe, and all had beentaken care of.All I can picture now are the suspense books I love to read coming to life, and my brother in the middle of it.

“She’s fine.”

“Trey. Please. Tell me if you’re in danger.”

“Don’t leave until I get there. I’ll see you at five.” He hangs up leaving my mind a whirling mess of worry. Maybe I’m overreacting and this is Trey being overly dramatic because he found out about me and Nolan. If I was truly in danger, he’d be at security right now demanding I leave with him.

There’s no way I can focus on my job. I dial the only person who can answer my questions.

When Nolan doesn’t answer, I hang up and send him a text message.

Me:Tell me what’s going on with Trey.

If Trey outed us, Nolan won’t be responding anytime soon. I pace the downstairs lobby for a few minutes before realizing diving into work will be the only thing to distract me from whatever the hell is going on.

Two hours later, I’ve accomplished little, and I still don’t have a response from Nolan. Maybe if I send him dirty texts he’ll respond.

Me: FYI. The batteries in my pink bunny last a long time. Longer than you.

It’s true. Between the vibrations from the motorcycle and being pressed up against Nolan’s strong back as we drove through Boston, my body was on fire for him. I hadn’t dared lower my hands too far on his waist while riding, but as soon as he unlocked my front door, I had my hands all over his fly.

I was ready for him to take me against the wall the second we entered my apartment. He asked to use my bathroom, and when he came out, he told me to lock up behind him and left.

Not a hug or even a handshake. Nolan doesn’t seem the type to play mind games. I had told him I didn’t want anything more than sex, and he’d been clear on wanting more. This could be his way of playing hard to get, or the guilt of keeping secrets from Trey could be eating at him.

Shit. That would mean he’s one of the good guys. Too good to be true. A man with morals, integrity, and looks that melt panties off with an easy lift of his lips. Already he’s complicating my life.

I wanted zero distractions from my job. I worked so hard to finally have financial and emotional freedom only to have my sex drive controlled by one of the two off-limits men in Boston.

I manage to finish my shift without any interruptions. As I say goodnight to my coworkers, I send my brother a text letting him know I’m ready to leave. He’s waiting for me on the sidewalk when I exit the building.

“Are you going to tell me what’s going on?”

“Nothing. Just keeping my sister safe.”

“From what? Who?”
