We speak at the same time. “You go first,” she says, her lips curving into a small smile.

The kittens take that moment to weave between our legs, yowling for food. I laugh and scoop them up. “Lemme just feed these wiggling furballs.”

“I wish I could take a hot shower.” She wraps her arms around her chest. “I’m still cold.”

“They better fix that shit tomorrow, or it’s going to start smelling really fucking bad in here,” I say.

“Thank God for deodorant. Anyway, I’m going to go change. Want to watch a movie? Get warm under a blanket?”

I wrangle the girls into the kitchen and open a can of food, grateful for the distraction while I try to play it cool. A movie, nothing serious about that. No overthinking required. “Yeah, sure.”

She smiles and heads into her room. I secretly hope all her pajamas are still dirty, because her in that tiny fucking skirt does things to my sanity.

The girls make happy little chirps as they eat, and I lean against the counter, my mind spiraling.

She’s going to come out here looking hot as hell.

We are definitely going to fuck.

Finallygoing to fuck.

But should I?

Goddamn.

She wants this. Has wanted this. I want this.

What the fuck is wrong with me?

Jasper, stop being a little bitch. You’ve done this a hundred times. Dick in pussy. Simple.

I’m so caught up in my head that I don’t hear Leon come through the front door until he says my name.

“Why do you look like you’re having an aneurysm? Should I get Blake?”

“Lee? I didn’t think you’d be back tonight.”

He kicks off his shoes and drops his bag by the door, sighing like he hasn’t released a breath in days, which is probably accurate. “Not happy to see me?”

Well…

Falin comes into the room, her face surprised to see Leon standing there. “Hey, we didn’t think you’d be home tonight.”

“I feel so welcome,” Leon says flatly.

Falin hurries to hug him. “Stop, you know that’s not what I mean.”

“It’s fine, I’m just absolutely done in.” He scratches the kitten’s heads on his way to the fridge and grabs a beer. “Fill me in on everything I missed.”

Falin and I share a look, but she says, “Yeah, alright. Grab me one too while you’re in there.”

I shake my head at the absurdity of yet another night getting cockblocked by someone or something in this apartment. “Me too.”

By some divine miracle,I manage to get Falin alone the next day. Leon’s working on some program to track a money trail and Blake woke up feeling sick. Damon, being Damon, wants to stay by her side.

Fine with me.
