“I don’t think there’s many other Chad Fuller’s that have been diced up by a serial killer, and lived to tell the tale.” Ally said. “Or not any we know about.”

“Yeah, sure.” Carter said. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to…”

“To what?”

“Look at you like that, the sweeping look,” He shook his head. “It’s the doctor look, giving a patient a visual check. Habit I guess.”

“I guess it’s better than the glares and the whispers.”

“You can give me the once over if you’d like.” Ally said.

Carter snorted, shaking his head. “I’ve got scared parents to reassure the best I can. Good luck with your investigation.”

Carter left the office. Ally turned to the evidence box, zipping the top shut.

“At least he looked concerned and didn’t gawp at you.”

“I’d prefer if there was no reaction, no recognition.”

“There is nothing hotter than a worried doctor.” Ally said.

Chad shook his head, and Ally chuckled.

“Don’t tell me, you wouldn’t…”

“I wouldn’t. He’s not my type.”

Chad’s type was at home, making flatpack furniture to stop himself from going out on the kill.

“Crystal blue eyes.” Ally sighed.

Romeo’s were hypnotic green, they darkened when he drew his eyebrows together, and blackened altogether when he pulled his expression into a snarl. Chad swallowed when he pictured the look on Romeo’s face when he split the table leg, let alone when he killed Marc.

Ally knocked her elbow into Chad’s arms. “Bet he’s good with his hands.”

Romeo was good with his hands. Chad swayed when he thought of Romeo’s hands on Marc’s throat. The look on Romeo’s face after, the pure euphoria. The monster had come out, and killed Chad’s enemy.

“Chad?”

“Huh?”

His heart drummed, stealing his breath, and Ally frowned.

“You good?”

“Yeah … just hospitals.”

She patted the box containing the kidneys. “Wanna get these babies back to the station?”

“Sure.”

Chapter Four

Romeo stood waiting in the hallway, drying his hands on a towel. “How was it?”

Chad closed the door and shrugged. “Awkward. But not as awkward as I expected.”

“So that’s kinda good?”
