“It doesn’t belong to the military?”
“No. It was bought a long time ago. There were concerns the buyer wanted to turn the land into housing, but it never happened … nothing happened, it was just left.”
“Who owns it?”
The DI sighed. “Mr. Wills.”
Chad frowned. “Any relation to JB Wills and the offshore account paying Ellen and Kerion?”
Ally nodded. “We reckon so, but we have no idea who Mr. Wills is, where he lives, what he does, what he looks like, we’ve got nothing.”
“DI Sharpe!”
Josh burst into the clearing. “They’ve found something in the search.”
“What?” The DI asked, hurrying after Josh.
“A pair of shades.”
The DI brushed past him and Josh turned his attention to Chad.
“One might say afancypair.”
Chad laughed.
“How was therapy?”
“Short.”
“Ah, short and sweet.”
“Is that the warning you give to all your lovers?” Ally said.
Josh winked. “Sure is.”
Ally went to follow him, but Chad touched her shoulder, stopping her. “We’ll be over in a minute.”
She looked up at him. “What is it?”
Chad waited until Josh had gone. “You never said you used to see my therapist.”
“What did she say?”
Chad frowned. “Nothing, only you used to be one of her patients.”
Ally averted her gaze. “Yeah, I was, until I realized seeing her was pointless.”
“Why?”
“It didn’t help me.” She swept her hands down her protective suit. “But this did. Taking action is far better that merely thinking about it. I’m doing something about how I feel.”
“And you feel better for it?”
He could see the smile in her eyes. “Starting to. I’m making a difference. Therapy … it wasn’t for me.”
“I don’t think it’s for me either.”
“But you don’t have a choice, not if you wanna keep your job. If she suggests hypnosis, go for it, best nap I’ve had in years.”
