And then the televised punishments started.

And we were invited to join the lottery for a private session, the "Immersive Sin Experience."

When I learned what they forced her to do simply to entertain the masses, I knew I had to help.

I decided to love her because I knew she needed it. So many people watched, but so few actually cared. She's become an idea in a woman's body. I want to help bring back her soul.

"I'm almost there," Levi finally says as his icon picks up pace and rounds the corner. "Give me another minute.”

Dani is hysterical beside me. “Someone’s hurting her, Jax! He’s choking her and trying—”

“It’s okay, it’s okay,” I tell her as she jumps to her feet and begins to pace the small room. “Levi is almost there.

"Hurry," I prod him, drumming my fingers in an anxious rhythm against my thigh.

And then Levi does the exact opposite thing from what I expect. He stops.

"Fuck," he groans, hardly above a whisper.

"What? What's going on?" Dani leans over my shoulder, pressing her ear to mine through the headphones.

But Levi doesn't need to answer when our screen is flooded with light, picking up the feed from the small camera I hid on his collar.

The power has returned, which is definitely not a good thing.

My gaze flicks toward the television screen, but the OA feed has been pulled from broadcast. Our only visual comes from Levi, and so far all I can see is a long, empty hallway.

But then he rounds the corner…

SIN

His hands reach for my throat, stifling the scream that threatens to rip out of me in an uncontrollable, primal rage.

"My sweet, sweet Sin, what are you doing back here?" he hisses, leaning in close even as his hands remain wrapped around my neck. I can't see him, but I can feel his hot breath fan over my face.

Judging by his voice, I've never met this man before in my life. Unfortunately, he seems to know me very well and has no problem taking liberties because of it.

"What do you want?" I manage to rasp as his grip loosens. My head is spinning from the reduced oxygen flow, and I double over, sucking in large gasps of air when I should be running.

"The same thing we all want, Sin. You."

Before I can rise to my full height again, he knocks me back against the wall and covers my body with his, sending a fresh wave of pain to my newly inked thigh. Everything aches, butmore than anything, the feel of his erection sickens me. This is so much worse than what goes on in that glass room.

"You can't have me," I growl, slowly sliding down the wall in an attempt to wriggle my way to freedom.

The sound of his insidious laughter floods my stomach with bile. "Why, Sin, it would seem I already do." He leans down, bringing the heat and stench of unclean breath with him as he steals a kiss.

I clamp my teeth onto his lower lip and bite until I taste the satisfying tang of blood. This only causes him to laugh harder.

"You're much feistier than I—" The lights zing on overhead, and he stops abruptly, stumbling back a couple paces as he rubs at his eyes.

Seeing my chance, I fly forward, unsheathing the hidden weapon from my tight sleeve. He drops his hands and glances over at me, and for a moment, time seems to freeze.

I commit every detail I can to memory in case I'll need them later—his cruel green eyes, sharp, hook-like nose, heavy tan brow—and then I jam the pen into his right eye, pressing hard until blood squirts from the socket and splatters across my face.

And then I run as fast as my feet can carry me.
