“Are you okay, Remy?” Victoria asks softly, squeezing my hand.

I snort. “As if you can’t feel what I’m feeling. Yes, it stings a little, and I’m a little mad, but overall, it’s better that I found out now instead of later.”

“That’s true. They’re the ones missing out,” she assures me, and I smile.

They are the ones missing out. Because I’m awesome and so are my pack mates.

Chapter Twenty-six

Remington

Afterthefiascothatwas yesterday, I’ll admit I wasn’t holding out too much hope for my date at the zoo today. I’m trying not to let it affect me, but I can’t help wondering why they didn’t want me.

I understand they have a connection, and I don’t even care that they bonded. I’m happy for them, truly.

What I don’t understand is why their connection meant that they wanted nothing to do with me.

“You’re killing me, Remy.” Milo wraps his arms around me from behind, sitting his chin on my shoulder. “I can’t stand how sad and hurt you feel. I should get one of our alphas. I can’t purr for you like they can. I’m sure it would help—it always helps me.”

I shake my head, leaning back into him. “No, I don’t need either of them. You being here is enough. Plus, purrs don’t solve everything. I’ll be okay. I just didn’t see it coming—even though I should have—so it’s affecting me more than I thought it would.”

“Well, I’m here for whatever you need, baby.” He kisses the side of my neck, and I smile.

“You can definitely keep calling me baby.”

He kisses my neck once more before stepping back. “Done. Now come on, Camila is so excited about seeing the big cats.”

“You know they don’t have it set up by type of animal, right?” I ask with a laugh as we rejoin the others.

Camila shrugs. “That’s okay. I just want to see all the big cats.”

“I want to see the pandas,” Quinn announces.

I snort. “What about you guys? Hawk and Jasper, what are you most excited about?”

“Giafes,” Jasper says excitedly. “They so tall.”

“That they are, baby boy.” Emilia ruffles his hair before looking at her eldest son. “What about you?”

“Polar bears.”

I nod before turning to my other suitors. “What about the two of you? Lee? Aubrey?”

Lee wrinkles his nose. “The lions.”

“Definitely the hippos,” Aubrey says with a grin.

“And what about you, Milo?”

He shrugs. “I want to see it all.”

“And we’ll see it all,” I assure them. “Since Jasper wants to see the giraffes, let’s stop by there first. We can see that area, then we can ride the lift to the top of the park to see the Arctic area to see the polar bears and then work our way down. Then back up and back down again.”

Thank goodness we’re going to be here all day because the zoo is massive. It’s been around forever. It’s one of the few places that was still standing in San Diego after the Event. It makes it all that more special to me, thinking about how long it’s been around.

“Yes!” Jasper squeals.

Once everyone has agreed, we set off and before too long, I’ve all but forgotten about Rhys and Gracie.
