Fitz closed his eyes and held on tight to his control. He needed to leave… yet how in the hellcouldhe leave? If he did, some strange alpha could come in… taking what wasn’t theirs. Not that he’s mine.

“Fitzzzzz,” Bellamy slurred, going to his hands and knees.

Fitz sucked in some air… knowing they shouldn’t… all while knowing they didn’t have much of a choice. Before the decision was even made, he found himself on his knees. Behind Bellamy… pulling the omega into his arms.

“I don’t want to do this… not like this, Bell. Not like this.”

“I know,” Bellamy said between pants. “I’m so sorry…”

He rested his forehead against the back of Bellamy’s head, searching for clarity. A wave of need washed over him, robbing him of any lucidity.

Fitz dragged Bellamy’s pants down his hips before releasing his cock from his jeans. Only in partial rut, he at least had enough reason to remember the condom in his wallet. After struggling with it a moment, he angled himself down and pushed into Bellamy’s wet heat, a sigh on his lips.

Lost to the instinct, they were both trapped.

Just outside…

Tanner skipped up the steps to Bellamy’s front door, eager to see how far the pair had gotten with demolition. He’d kept his distance from Fitz the past weeks, trying to avoid another argument, but he couldn’t hold back any longer. Like a drunk seeking his next bottle, he was lured to Bellamy’s that night, in part to see Fitz again.

After knocking, no one came to the door.

But he could hear sounds inside. Knowing they were tearing down walls, he assumed they couldn’t hear his knocks over the noise—so Tanner let himself inside.

And entered a nightmare.

Tanner and Fitz writhed on the floor together. Bellamy’s stare lifted… it was totally glassy… unfocused. Pupils fully dilated.

He’s in heat.

Oh fuck, he’s in heat.

Which meant Fitz had gone into rut.

Tanner stood there a few seconds, in total shock. He backed up a few steps and ran into the wall before he spun and raced out, slamming the door on his way. He paused on the sidewalk a half a block down, his heart in his throat. Refusing the let the tears stinging the backs of his eyes fall, he kept his head up, daring them to appear. He’d always sensed Fitz had wanted this and now he had it, no matter how hard Bellamy had tried to deny it. Tanner had just been the stupid idiot believing the two of them could stop the runaway train they were on.

He breathed hard, trying to let the sudden onset of nausea pass. Once he had control again, he began walking. An hour went by. Maybe another.

Time had no meaning.

Unable to stop, he walked half the city, his mind churning. Finding nothing and everything.

Just the week before, he and Bellamy had discussed their need to cycle offHeatexand he’d been surprised to hear how long it had been for his roommate. But he also understood why it had been so long. Without family to protect him or the means to pay for others to do it, Bellamy was stuck. Tanner had offered to help Bellamy get into one of the exclusive spas he used to help him through his, but the omega had refused his offer.

“I can’t take your money, Tan.”

If only Bellamy had. Tanner would’ve paid for it ten times over to not walk in to what he’d walked in on. Bellamy’s pride had won out and now…

No. He’s not mine. He doesn’t even know who I am to him. I never told them. It’s as much my fault as theirs.

Or was it?

It was early in the cycle. Too early. While mature omegas often felt mild effects a day or two before, heats didn’t begin until the moon was full. Even partially medicated, Bellamy should’ve been covered. From the look in his roommate’s eyes there was no doubt about it. Bellamy had been in heat.

And naturally Fitz had been right there.

Of fucking course.
