What in the hell did I just do?

In his mind’s eye, a replay started. Fitz’s cock in his hand, pulsing with need. The tangle of the man’s strong fingers in his hair, dragging him closer. Him lifting his stare to the handsome alpha, hungry to see what pleasure looked like on Fitz’s face.

And he hadn’t been disappointed.

The minute his alpha had come, the man had looked glorious. The roar that ripped from Fitz’s lips had rocketed through him, leaving him shaken and charged with desire.

And then that possessive move later, backing him against the island?

It had taken everything in Tanner’s power to walk away versus dragging his pants down around his ankles and begging to feel that big cock deep inside. From the look of Fitz’s still-hard shaft, there had been plenty of life left in the party. But there had been one question plaguing Tanner, enough that it helped him throw on the brakes.

Is he truly over Bellamy?

There were other questions, ones just as important, but that one alone was enough to be the cold water he needed. He refused to be a passing fancy for Fitz Walker.

He wouldn’t survive it.

Tanner’s head rolled on the headrest, the supple leather creaking under his head—and he glanced at his brother’s front door, hoping to catch another glimpse of the alpha behind the glass walls.

And it reminded him of the first time he saw Fitz… through a window.

On the outside… as always…

Looking in…

Chapter One

One warm summer night six years before…

“This has been the bessst night of my liiiife!” Tanner McCreary screamed up to the starry sky. Above, the cloudless blanket of black velvet was studded with a few sparkling dots of light. It was rare to see too many stars in the city, but he was being given a rare treat that night. He turned to beam at his small group of friends who’d joined him to celebrate his birthday. He spun in a little circle on the sidewalk. Immediately regretting that decision, he felt the wavering dizziness steal over him. Luckily his best friend, Raimy, was standing nearby and helped keep him on his feet. He let out a giggle and looked up at Raimy. “I’ve hada lotto drink.”

“Yes, my friend, you have. But you only turn twenty-one once, so I think we can forgive you this time.”

“To Tan-Tan turning twenty-one!” another friend, Addy, cried out, lifting the half-empty bottle of bubbly they’d snuck from the last bar they’d been in. Addy took a sip from it before handing it to Tanner. “Drink up!”

Tanner took the bottle and lifted it to his lips. He staggered back a little before taking a good, long gulp. The fizzy alcohol hit his throat and tickled all the way down. He broke the seal his lips made with a pop and sighed out loud. “Ireallylike champagne.”

Raimy took the bottle and sighed. “Maybe a littletoomuch.”

“Move on!” came a deep bark behind them.

Tanner turned and glanced at an enormous bouncer hovering outside the door to one of the many bars and clubs along the street. The beta glared, one stark eyebrow raised as he peered their way.

“We’re celebrating here!” cried another friend, Halle, to the bouncer before adding a particularly terrible finger gesture.

“Celebrate all you want, but you need to move on and keep the door clear!”

The whole three-block area was one big party, and the streets were filled with bodies. It was the perfect place to celebrate his coming of age—amongst the city’s young, hip, partying crowd. The last thing they needed was some bouncer lowering the tone. Before he could saw anything, Raimy dragged him away.

“Spoiled sport,” Tanner spat over one shoulder as he was led a little farther down.

Tanner turned his head back too quickly, and suddenly the world began to spin. He yanked his hand from Raimy, sensing things weren’t well in his little world. They walked a few more feet before he had to stop. Leaning against a plate glass window of the neighboring bar, he tried to silently demand the street to stop spinning.

“You okay, Tan?” Raimy asked at his side.

Concern echoed in his words, and Tanner smiled at them. He didn’t deserve a friend like Raimy. Not in a million years. Tanner took in a deep breath, trying to right himself. “I don’t know. Maybe not.”

Raimy leaned in closer and whispered, “Wanna go home?”
