“A theory on what?”

“Who your alpha is.”

Tanner narrowed his eyes at Bellamy.

“After seeing you… and Fitz at the hospital when Carter was born… I kind of got the feeling…hemight be your alpha.”

Tanner remained silent. He was ill-prepared to answer those questions. What in the world had given Bellamy that idea?

The baby got a little fussy, saving him for a moment. He handed the infant back to Bellamy as he searched for the right words to say.

“Please tell me I’m wrong,” Bellamy said after lovingly placing the babe back into the sling. “Please tell me itisn’tFitz.”

“It’s not Fitz,” Tanner said robotically.

Bellamy stared a moment, as if trying to determine if Tanner was lying. After a deep sigh of relief, he visibly relaxed. “Of course he’s not. What were we thinking?”

“We?”

Bellamy’s head flipped up, and his lips began to open and closed soundlessly.

Tanner sat up straighter. “We? Did you tell my brother about my alpha?”

“Noooo… I mean, not exactly.”

Tanner glared at Bellamy.

“I didn’t mean to,” Bellamy whimpered.

“Bellamy!”

Bellamy’s eyes closed for a moment and then reopened. “It was right after Quinn and I got back together… we made an agreement. No more secrets. For some reason you and your alpha popped in my head and… my poker face is terrible. Quinn knew I had something I was hiding. And Ididn’tneed another misunderstanding coming between us in that moment.”

Tanner shook his head, anger filling him. “You had no right.”

“No. I didn’t,” Bellamy said, lowering his head. “I had no right… but I didn’t know what else to do. Did I lie to my mate or keep your secret?”

“Quinn? He’s the worst person to know this.”

“He’s known for months and has never said anything, has he?”

Tanner shook his head.

“He won’t push you on it, I made sure of that. I made him promise to never open his mouth.”

Tanner sighed. “Eventually, he will. I know him.”

Bellamy picked up his other half of the sandwich. “It was Quinn who suggested Fitz was your alpha, actually. I told him it was impossible… I mean, given everything that happened between Fitz and I. You would’ve told me if he was yours.”

It was Tanner’s turn to cringe.

“I mean, if the situation had been flipped and you were hanging out with my alpha, I’d have told you and asked you to back off.”

“Your alpha is my brother,” Tanner murmured.

“Sure, I said if the situation was flipped,” Bellamy went on. “Anyway… you would’ve told me.”

“Well, youdidsay you and he were just friends, so if Fitzhadbeen my alpha, there really would’ve been no reason for me to tell you to back off,” Tanner said. “I would’ve assumed the two of you would’ve remained hands off.”
