Tanner shrugged. “As much fun as I could stand.”

The beta cuddled close to Tanner. The guy pressed a kiss and hard cock against him. “Why don’t we have coffee in bed?”

Tanner gave Bellamy one last look before turning to the eager beta, a plastered smile on his face.Yeah, baby, fuck me until I forget.“Let me get us some cups and we can get on to having some more fun.”

The beta slapped his ass cheek—making Tanner jump and cringe from the bruises already on his ass—before nuzzling against the back of his neck. He smiled through the pain, both physical and emotional, and led the beta back to his bedroom.

The man crowded close behind him, trailing kisses on the back of his neck while sliding Tanner’s robe off his shoulders. The soft material fell into a puddle on the floor around his feet with a whisper of a sound. Tanner closed his eyes and tried to let those kisses push the pain away…

He could feel the man’s hard cock pressing against his lower back, a constant, throbbing reminder of the night before… and how fucking to forget hadn’t worked then. And it probably won’t now, either.

Still… Tanner tried to get into it. Between the light of day and the loss of his slight inebriation, he was struggling to find the pleasure he needed.

“Hey… where’s that beautiful head of yours going?” the beta asked before tugging him closer. “You’re supposed to be here with me, lover.”

“Sorry,” Tanner whispered before spinning in the man’s arms. He draped his hands over the beta’s broad shoulders and came to a stunning realization. He’d forgotten his bed partner’s name. Hiding his momentary confusion, he smiled wickedly.Fake it until you make it. “Where were we?”

“Right. About. Here,” the beta said between stolen kisses. And the guy could kiss. Seriously.

Tanner smiled up, and another realization hit him. Dark golden blond hair. Trim beard. Big, muscled body.

He looked a lot like Fitz.

Tanner pulled away, trying to put some distance between them. “You know, I forgot I’ve got to get to work,” Tanner lied. Well, it wasn’t a total lie. He did have to get some work in on a commission.Better now than later.

“Aawwwhhh,” the beta crooned, his frown wrinkling his handsome features. “But we were just getting to know one another.”

Tanner plastered that same grin on his face. “I know, right? Work sucks, but nothing I can do.”

The beta gave him another kiss. “How about a beej before you go?”

“No time,” Tanner murmured. “I’ve gotta jump in the shower and head out right now.”

A deep sigh rushed against his ear. “Damn. Maybe next time, hmmm?”

Tanner brushed a kiss on the beta’s jaw, knowing full well he’d never see this guy again. “Sure. Next time, babe.”

Chapter Nine

Back to the present…

Fitz peeked into the hospital room, clutching a bouquet of flowers and the string to a balloon tightly in his fists. The inflatable baby was corny, he knew, but he’d felt like he needed to bringsomethingand since there were noSorry we can’t be fuck-buddies anymoreballoons, the baby would have to do.

“Knock-knock?”

“Come on in,” he heard Bellamy say softly from just inside.

As soon as he entered, Bellamy and Quinn lifted their stares for a moment and grinned. “Hey, Fitz,” Bellamy said, his voice low.

“Hey,” he mumbled.

Quinn lay in bed, curled up beside his omega. Bellamy cuddled a tiny bundle in his arms, and both he and his alpha smiled down at the infant.

“Did you come to meet the new addition?” Quinn asked, unable to take his eyes away from papa and babe.

“Yeah,” he all but grunted, feeling out of place. The room was filled with family—most he’d met at the baby shower a week before. And, of course, there was Tanner McCreary, wide-eyed and gorgeous sitting in the corner glaring at him.

He hadn’t seen Tanner since the baby shower, and he felt a fresh wave of both anger and lust that was familiar and chaotic at the same time. The anger was expected. It was what he was accustomed to. The lust was not. The fact it recently seemed to grow each time he saw Tanner only added to his confusion.
