Tanner closed his eyes, grateful Fitz was behind him. “I put it behind me and moved on. It was a mistake. One I refuse to make again.”
“Liar,” Fitz murmured, the warmth of his breath washing over Tanner’s ear.
It made him want to squirm. And beg. It was enough to get another drop of his slick easing from him. His body was more than ready for the big alpha to take.
Fitz continued. “I know you were slick the last time. I bet you’re just as wet for me now.”
Tanner rolled his eyes, hating his traitorous body in that moment.
Beau suddenly appeared at the doorway, his steps slowing as he got an eyeful of Tanner and Fitz. “Am I interrupting?”
“Of course not,” Tanner answered as Fitz released his hold.
Beau offered a hand to Fitz. “Mr. Walker…”
“This is my other brother. Beau,” Tanner murmured.
Fitz clasped Beau’s hand and shook it.
“Nice to finally meet you,” Beau added. “I’ve heard so much about you.”
“Oh? All good, I hope. But somehow, I doubt it,” Fitz replied.
Tanner cringed. Beau took the comment in stride, never showing anything but the perfectly practiced smile he’d apparently learned from Quinn. “All good. Hopefully you won’t do anything to change that tonight.”
Beau eyed them both closely before walking over to the bar. Tanner tried to walk away, but Fitz caught his wrist.
“Tonight?”
“Sure,” he lied, knowing he would go out of his way to ensure hewasn’tat home at eleven. Or anytime thereafter. “See you then.”
Chapter Four
Later that night…
It was half past eleven when he showed up at Tanner’s apartment. He hadn’t wanted to be on time and appear too eager, so he’d waited a few in the cab outside Tanner’s building trying to psyche himself up to follow through with his plan. Now he was less hyped and the complications tonight might cause were on the forefront of his mind. But all the sleepless nights since Tanner had touched him in that bathroom had left him feeling as if he’d squandered the opportunity of a lifetime.
Lust-filled hate sex with one wild omega.
He squared himself up to the door, wondering if he wasn’t making a huge, huge mistake. But there was no way he couldn’t know what it felt like to have Tanner under him.Writhing.Pleading.Using that pretty, soft mouth to push him over the edge again.
When had he started seeing it as a pretty, soft mouth? Actually… when had this weird infatuation with Tanner begun at all? They’d barely gotten along over the last few years and now he wanted to make things ten-thousand times more explosive by bedding the man?
Maybe I should go.
Fitz eyed the door, wondering which was the better move—did he walk away and forget whatever this strange thing simmering between them was, or did he set a match to the oil and watch it all burn down. The flames might be fun for a while, but ultimately one or both of them might end up destroyed.
But what a way to go.
He lifted his hand to knock and froze, unable to do it.
After a moment, he lowered his hand and took a step back from the door.
An image of Tanner’s upswept face, with swollen lips just kissed, came to his mind. There had been something that hurt in his chest when he’d looked down at the omega… so hungry. So willing. Seeing it once more in his mind made his chest ache again.
He took another step back and rested on the wall opposite the door.
Not like this, a voice whispered in his head and he didn’t understand what it meant.
