When he was done, Raimy drew Tanner closer. “How about you guys go on and I’ll take Tanner home?”

“Wait,” Tanner cried, reaching for Addy’s bottle. He opened the twist cap and took a huge gulp of the vodka before washing his mouth and spitting it out. Handing the bottle back to Addy, he sighed. At least he didn’t taste vomit as much anymore. “Thanks.”

Addy cringed, barely touching the bottle before turning it over and emptying the rest of the bottle on the sidewalk. “Yeah, thanks.”

“You two head home,” Halle said. “He needs to crash.Lightweight.”

“Happy Birthday, Tanner!” two others yelled before the group of five wandered off back down the street, loud and obnoxious.

“My friends are assholes,” Tanner said before turning to Raimy. “Except you. I love you, Raimy.”

“I love you, too.” Raimy caressed the side of his face, turning it slightly. “I’d love you even more if you didn’t talk straight on and make me smell your vomit breath.”

Tanner chuckled. “I washed my mouth out with vodka.”

“It wasn’t enough, babe. It wasn’t enough.”

Raimy led them to the curb and held out a hand to wave down a cab. Moments later, they were racing toward Tanner’s apartment. The smell in the cab was atrocious and wasn’t helping his stomach. Tanner rolled down the window and let the cool, night air wash over his face. It was the only thing keeping him from throwing up again.

Once they arrived at his building, they climbed the stairs to Tanner’s apartment and made their way inside. Raimy helped Tanner clean up before they fell on the couch together, sighing with exhaustion. “You doing okay?”

“Yeah,” Tanner mumbled. “I don’t think there’s anything left to throw up.”

“Good. I hope you had fun tonight,” Raimy said. “You know, beforeyou got sick.”

“It would’ve been better if my alpha hadn’t treated me like shit.”

Raimy chuckled but then frowned, really looking at Tanner. “Wait.Youralpha… as in literallyyouralpha?”

Tanner nodded, exhaustion really setting in. “The real thing.” He yawned, covering his mouth.

“Seriously?” Raimy’s eyes widened. “I thought you were just flirting. I didn’t realize you literally meantyouralpha. What’s his name?”

“Dunno,” Tanner murmured, cuddling into the pillows of the couch. He’d been so into staring into the alpha’s dreamy gray-blue eyes, he hadn’t thought of anything but touching the man. “Didn’t ask.”

Raimy grabbed his arm and shook lightly. “Tanner! How are you going to find him again? You needed his name at the very least!”

“You saw what happened. Why would I want his name?”

“He said it was an accident. Maybe it really was.”

“It wasn’t,” Tanner said. “He wasn’t into me.”

Raimy jumped up and grabbed a blanket from the back of the couch before laying it over Tanner. “Fine. You sleep. I’m taking a taxi back to that bar so I can find out who your mystery man is!”

“Noooo,” Tanner murmured, holding a hand out to Raimy. “Don’t leave me alone on my birthday!”

“Tan! That wasyouralpha. And you don’t even know his name… what if you never see him again? This might’ve been kismet, bringing the two of you together. One chance and then…poof… it’s gone.” Raimy gasped, a look of horror coming over his face. “AndIwas the one who pulled you away!My gods…”

“Did you not notice? He didn’t wantanythingto do with me.”

“You’re onScentex.”

“Naturally,” Tanner answered, pinching his nose and closing his eyes. Most unmated omegas were on the scent-masking drug. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to live independently. But then, had he not been masking his scent, his alpha would’ve claimed him, then and there, in that bar.

Something about that concept was suddenly very, verysexy.

No, it’s not.He wiped the thought from his brain. His lust had finally calmed down to a low roar. He didn’t need to spike it again. Especially when the alpha he was lusting over had dumped him in the floor.
