“What?” both Fitz and Harrison asked at the same moment.
“I know it’s him. Charles Macklin. Quinn’s ex. HehatedBellamy—and the fact he broke into B’s office makes it seem like he might’ve been the target. There was no love lost between us, either.Andhe was here a few days before the fire. He went to the bakery to sample wedding cake.”
“You mean that asshole who nearly ruined Bellamy?” Fitz asked.
“One in the same.”
Fitz and Harrison reviewed the video more.
“How can you tell it’s him?” Fitz asked. “I don’t see anything that gives him away.”
“His walk. The way he holds his shoulders. It’s him. I know it,” Tanner said. “But I can’t tell for sure.”
“That’s not going to be enough,” Fitz said. “We need proof.”
“It wouldn’t hurt to do a little digging on Mr. Macklin,” Harrison said.
“No judge is going to give you a search warrant for that,” Fitz said.
“No, but Icando some other digging,” Harrison said. “See if I can connect any dots with the other fires.”
“Other fires?” Tanner asked.
“We have a serial arsonist in the province,” Harrison said. “Some of the clues point that this one wasn’t done by the same man, but I can’t rule it out, either.”
“I seriously doubt Charles is a serial arsonist,” Tanner said. “If anything, he was trying to hurt Bellamy. A crime of passion. My studio was just collateral damage.” Tanner looked up at the burnt mess.
“Never say never,” Harrison said before taking the tablet. “It can’t hurt to take a peek and see what comes up.”
“Good luck,” Tanner said to Harrison. “I want whoever did this to pay.”
“If I have the power to, they will see justice.” Harrison looked between the two of them. “So… how are things otherwise?”
“Better,” Fitz said, his face growing a little red.
Tanner lifted his stare and looked between them.
Harrison eyed Tanner. “Official yet? I mean, I can scent you all over him, so I assume so.”
“Wow,” Tanner said.
Fitz’s face flamed. “We haven’t discussed anything being official. Yet.”
“Well the way you’re hovering over your mate, I’d say it’s pretty official.”
Fitz looked over. He hadn’t even noticed that he was running his hand over Tanner’s neck… arm… back. He’d been subconsciously marking Tanner as his. Signaling another alpha to back off. He dropped his hand, shocked by his own action.
“The family will want to meet him. Soon.” Harrison said. “And you don’t have to worry. We won’t try to take what’s yours.”
“Who said I’m his?” Tanner asked, lifting a brow.
Harrison smiled. “Are you saying you’re not?”
Tanner looked between them a moment before smiling broadly. He didn’t answer, just walked back into what was left of his building.
“The family doesn’t know yet,” Fitz murmured to Harrison. “And I think we should keep it that way for now.”
Harrison’s eyebrows rose. “Oh? I think you might be wrong about that.”
