“Easy enough for you to sneak a peek while you were in his house.” Tanner wrinkled his nose and said the next words with a hint of distaste. “In his bed.”

“I came here last night to beg your brother to go help Bellamy. So, if my plan was to get closer, I apparently didn’t think things out too well. I sent my adversary in to save the day. I know you think I’m an idiot, but I’m not that big of an idiot.”

Tanner stood a little straighter, a questioning look on his face. “Wait… you came here to beg Quinn to help Bellamy? Did Quinn refuse when Bellamy asked him?”

“Bellamydidn’task. I told him to, but I knew from the look on his face, he wouldn’t. He’s too proud. Too independent. So, as I sat in a bar all alone, drowning my sorrows, I realized I wasn’t in a position to help. But therewassomeone who could. Bellamy wouldn’t ask, soIneeded to do it for him.” Fitz stirred the sugar into the coffee in his cup before he lifted it to his lips, sucking down a good, long sip. “When I got here last night at some ungodly hour, your brother had no idea Bellamy was in trouble—so my instincts had been right.”

“Was Quinn able to help?”

Fitz shrugged. “No idea. Before he left, I remember him leading me in here and sitting me on that couch. After that, I don’t remember much else until I woke up and saw you.” He took another long sip before sighing. “That reallyisgood coffee.”

“Maybe I should go over and check on them,” Tanner whispered. He grabbed his keys and began walking toward the door.

Fitz reached out and grabbed Tanner’s arm. An electric charge raced up his arm and went straight to his still-hard cock. “Maybe let Quinn and Bellamy figure this out. They need a little time alone.”

Tanner looked up at him, confusion in his gaze. And something else… something darker.

After a too-long moment of silence sizzling between them, Tanner posed a question. “If you’re so in love with Bellamy, why are you letting my brother win?”

Fitz clenched his teeth. “Bellamy’s pregnant.” That wasn’t the whole of it, but it was the final nail in the coffin.

Tanner’s eyes widened. “He told you?”

Fitz tilted his head, sure from the look on Tanner’s face this wasn’t news. “Youknew?”

“I did. Now the only question is—does Quinn know?”

Fitz shook his head. “I don’t think so. At least not when I was there last night. Maybe he does now. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.”

Tanner didn’t respond. His stare went down to where Fitz still held his arm. Fitz followed the omega’s gaze before he yanked his hand away, not sure why he’d held on so long. Or why he felt the loss of that touch so keenly.

“You’re only letting Bellamy go because he’s pregnant. Is that the case?” Tanner caught Fitz’s stare and held it. “Or is there something else?”

“I love him enough to want to see him happy… even if that’s not with me.”

Tanner grew quiet, the barest of frowns causing his brow to wrinkle. “Just like that? You’re going to turn off the switch and be done?”

“Ineversaid that.” As if someone could just switch off feelings. He took another sip from his cup before he lifted his stare to Tanner. “I wish it were that simple.”

Tanner held his stare before backing away a step. “Go find yourself a rebound. Someone to fuck the memory of Bellamy out of your system.”

Fitz eyed Tanner, his cock already coming up with ideas. Another wave of need filled him. All he could think about was dragging the omega closer and enacting some of the sultry visions filling his mind. “As I recall, you once offered me some help in that department.”

Without a thought, he lifted one hand and caressed Tanner’s cheek. It took a moment for Fitz to even register he’d moved. He’d backed Tanner against the island, leaving precious little space between them.

A hunger filled him, unlike any he’d ever sensed before.

Tanner put a finger in the middle of Fitz’s chest and pushed him away. “I’mnobody’srebound, Fitz Walker. I’m somebody’sforever. You’d best remember that.”

The omega pushed past him and walked out, ass swaying as provocatively as ever. As soon as he was gone, it was like the air was sucked from the room again. Fitz lowered to one of the island’s stools, his head still foggy as hell but that had nothing to do with the hangover. The new sense of confusion had Tanner McCreary written all over it.

“What in the hell did I just do?”

Tanner McCreary? Really?

Tanner could barely breathe as he walked out of his brother’s house, his tongue still tasting of Fitz’s cum. As soon as he was in the driver’ seat of his car, he locked the doors, closed his eyes, and brought his shaking hands to the steering wheel.
