They both watched as Cassidy silently headed into the living room and grabbed his charger. Fitz eyed his brother, tilting his head toward the beta.

Harrison wavered a moment before rising and walking into the living room. “I didn’t mean to…” he paused and glanced Fitz’s way before looking back to Cassidy. “Invalidate your fears when I said you had nothing to worry about.”

Cassidy rose to his full height and looked at Harrison, love shining in his tear-filled eyes. “I can’t sit back and wonder when someone is going to take you away from me. I can’t live like this, Harry.”

“No one’s taking meanywhere, baby,” Harrison, moving closer and sweeping Cassidy into his arms.

Fitz didn’t wait to listen to any more of the conversation between his brother and Cassidy. He quietly slipped out and headed down the stairs. While he was glad Cassidy and Harrison had another chance to talk it out, that left him without plans.Well, now what the hell am I going to do?The one good thing about being a member of a large family is there wasalwayssomeone to spend time with. He fished out his cellphone as he reached the bottom of the stairs, then dialed the next number in his chain.

After three rings, Emerson picked up.

“Whatcha doing tonight?”

“Work,” Emerson said before grunting.

Fitz froze mid-step. “Are you doing what I think you’re doing?”

“If you think I’m doing leg-curls on the department’s machine, then yes,” Emerson replied. “Do you really think I’d answer the phone if I was screwing some hottie?”

“With you? One never knows.”

“Well, for future reference, Iwouldn’tanswer. Not even if the sex was bad.”

“I thought there was no such thing as bad sex?” he quipped, tossing Emerson’s mission statement back at his brother.

Emerson laughed. “There isn’t. A wet dick is a happy dick.”

“Man, you really are terrible.” Fitz shook his head before sliding behind the wheel of his truck. “What time do you get off?”

“Tomorrow,” Emerson answered.

“Damn. Okay, have a good night.” After ending the call, he tried Lucas. “Luke! Whatcha doing tonight?”

“Just started my shift.”

“Crap.” He could hear the sounds of pots and pans clanking in the background.

“Why? What’s up?”

“I had plans with Harry, but he’s tied up. I was hoping I could entice someone to come out with me.”

“You’re always welcome to come up to the restaurant. If you get here early enough, I might be able to chat for a bit while you eat.”

“Nah, I don’t want to bother you. Maybe we can hang out soon.”

“Yeah, sure thing,” Lucas said. “You could always call Em.”

“Nah, he’s busy, too.”

“What about Randall?”

“The pipsqueak? Maybe,” Fitz said. “I’ll call him.”

But even his youngest alpha brother was too busy to hang out with him that night. All of his old department buddies were either on shift or had plans of their own. Most of his new co-workers were older and had families. He even dialed up his omega brothers, but the screaming sounds of children in the background of both calls had him quickly changing his mind. Fitz loved being an uncle, but that wasn’t how he saw his Friday night going down.

Ireallyneed to make some friends outside work and the fam.

Fitz drove across town and pulled into the driveway of a small, tidy home. He glanced up, sighing that it was the way he was going to pass a Friday night—versus the wild night he’d planned. Before he could barely get out of his truck, his papa was opening the front screen door, a wide smile plastered on. “What do I owe the honor of seeing my favorite son?”
