Bull lowered the man into the cool water, hearing a moan rise up from the human’s lips. A pair of eyes opened, leveling Bull with a haunting stare.

His eyes were the color of lightning, almost white, with a twinge of yellow… with sparks moving within the orbs… but they soon faded to hazel, the flashes dying off.

“Thank you,” he whispered before the lids fluttered closed again.

Water rose, covering his burned flesh.

“Killian and Finn are on their way now,” Samuel said from the doorway.

Bull turned to face the native shaman. “Could he be one of yours?”

Samuel met Bull’s stare.“I’ll have to research it.The ancient text said something about elementals… that they would fight in the battle between man and beast. Now that I think about it, there wasn’t a number given.Perhaps I assumed it would be the basic four of earth, water, fire, and air.”

“Lightning is fire,” Dario said from behind Samuel. “Right? Does that mean there are two of each kind?”

“Perhaps,” Samuel added.

Or is he the other side of the coin? Bull paused, allowing the words Samuel had just spoken to wind through his mind.“The texts said they would fight in the battle between man and beast… but did they say for which side?”

Samuel frowned. “No.”

“What if we get a set and they get a set?” Bull asked before glancing at the man again. “What if he came here to hurt us and it backfired?”

“Nature wouldn’t side with what Project Zed has done,” Samuel said.“I can’t believe that. They’re going against the laws of nature to make monsters.”

Bull stared down at the man in the tub. “Let’s hope you’re right.” He cut off the water once it was as high as it could go.“Keep a close eye on him.I need to go find Deacon.”
