“And we’d be attacked by the others,” Drake said. “I think the cat is the only thing keeping Luca from going over the edge.”

“Why do you think that?” Bull asked.

Drake shrugged. “I just do.”

Bull stared a moment, his eyes narrowing. He relaxed after a moment and turned to the doctors.“I won’t push him to a point where he can’t come back from. Drake is the closest to my father right now. If he doesn’t think it’s a good idea, then I’ll follow his lead.” Bull turned back to the dragon. “After he gets some rest.”

“I do think we need to get Luca out of that shack. We think that’s the prison Luca has put himself into… to insulate him from all the shifter spirits there,” Drake said. “I can work on him again tomorrow.”

“You won’t work with him again until I approve it,” Bull said firmly. He was already late in leaving with his team—they now waited on the heli pad until he returned. He’d gotten the call from Jaeger and rushed to ensure his father was in one piece.

The dragon lifted his head and started to argue. Bull lifted a hand to silence the dragon. “He’s my father. I decide when he receives treatment.”

Drake’s jaw clenched, his eyes glowing with anger. He was silent a few heartbeats…

“Fine.”

Drake rose from his seat and swayed some. Jaeger moved closer and lent some support.

“I’m telling the guards not to let you in,” Bull called to the retreating men.He watched as Drake stiffened, but said nothing.

Bull frowned.

Why is the dragon so committed to saving my father?

He turned and looked at the creature. All the fire they’d seen upon arrival was gone. The monster that was Luca now lingered in a corner, seething in silence.

Bull approached the bars.

“We’re trying to save you, you stubborn bastard.”

His father lifted his stare for a second before he began to roar. Bull didn’t stay to listen. He had a mission ahead of him.
