Chapter Six

Moving Day…

Bull looked at his watch for the hundredth time. The doctors and the dragon were late. He didn’t necessarily need Drake, but it would’ve been nice to have some mental assistance to ensure his fath… the beast… wasn’t harmed in the move. The doctors were an absolute necessity. He cast a glance over to the snarling creature, his stomach clenching.

If the beast got loose, they’d struggle to get him down. He’d already proven that sedatives didn’t work well on him.

One trigger happy soldier might be the end of the male.

Bull let out a sigh when Killian and Finn finally showed up.

“Morning!” Killian called out, his doctor’s bag of tricks in hand.

“About time,” he muttered.

“Sorry,” Finn said.“We thought our mate was in labor.”

That took a little of the air out of Bull’s ire.“Oh—but I’m sure it’ll be soon.”

Wide smiles crossed both Finn and Killian’s lips.

“Any day now.We have his brother keeping an eye on him, just in case the false labor turns into the real thing,” Finn answered.

“We promise we won’t leave until your friend here is behind new bars,” Killian added. “But if we get the call—we need to go ASAP.”

“Understood,” Bull replied.

“Before we get started, we do have something to discuss with you.” Killian pulled a folder out and began to unlace the closure. “We finally got the results of his blood work and DNA.”

Bull stiffened, dread filling him.

“It took a bit longer to test—he’s got a lot of other shifters in him.” Killian looked down at the paper he withdrew. “Panther, bear, wolf, lion, and cheetah are the most prominent… along with about twenty other strains, including rhino and a little bit of dragon. The panther DNA was actually the strongest of them all, so we weren’t really sure he was who Deacon thought him to be.”

“But then we ran a DNA test on the rhino and human strands we were able to finally extract—and it’s a match to you, Bull.”

Bull drew in a shaky breath.“He is my father?”

“We believe he is,” Finn answered.

“What’s left of him,” Killian added.

“Meaning?”

Finn took a step closer, casting Killian a glare. He turned back to Bull. “Basically what we’re trying to say is—there might not be much of him left at this stage,” Finn said.“He’s had so many DNA strands grafted into his system, he’s lost among them. The shifters are likely too strong… which might be the reason the serum isn’t working to contain them… and I don’t know what we can do at this stage.”

Bull felt as if someone was ripping up his insides. “Deacon already suggested that—that the shifters might be too strong because he was a were and not a full shifter. He’s suggested a strong dragon shifter get inside his mind and find him another path out. If it’s possible.”

“I wish this dragon the best, but just… don’t get your hopes up.” Finn frowned. “We hate being the bearer of news like this… I know how hard you’ve searched for your father. Now to find him,” Finn paused.“I’m so sorry, Bull.”

“There has to be a little piece of him still in there,” Bull said.“He called my name.”

The doctors turned to look at each other a moment before they turned back to him.

“He could’ve simply be parroting a name he heard another use,” Finn said, Killian nodding his agreement.

“Not Bull.My given name. The one no one uses upon threat of death,” Bull added.“He shouldn’t have known it.”

Both men looked thoughtful again.
